So who's gonna volunteer to hold the annual mid-winter
bitch/moan/I'd_rather_be_skiing party? It's about time to start planning it.
We invaded Doug's house last year. I had the first one a few years ago and
wouldn't mind having it again, unless someone who hasn't held it at their place
wants to do it.

They were skiing on the Mississippi last Saturday, in front of the
arch. I keep saying I'm going to join them but with all the holiday
activities I always seem to forget. It is a standard outing that would
be well suited to those of you in the northeast as you are probably use
    to dodging hunks of ice.

 =============================================================================

In article <[email protected]>, [email protected] (Phil Yastrow) writes:
As an occasional writer of articles for Water Ski Magazine, the
editors have asked me to keep my eyes open for new ideas. The articles
I have written relate to man made ski lakes: where they are, how they
are built, etc. I am interested in hearing about EVERY man made lake
used for skiing that you know about. The November, 1993 article
entitled "Colorado, Ski Country USA" that I wrote is the first of
possibly many that will cover other areas of the country. Where are
all those lakes?

While reading this newsgroup It suddenly dawned on me that there may be
a human interest story in something like "Skiers on the Net", but I am
afraid John Q. Public will just not get it. But the net may serve the
purpose of broadcasting a global request for ideas for articles. The
information and dialogues in this group may be a real good starting point.

Here are some ideas just to show you that the First Amendment is well
respected by the editors at Water Ski.

o How I managed 5 buoys at 38 off with a woody. It was kind of like
    a combination airbrake/rudder.

o Why it is impossible to cohabitate on a lake with fishermen.

o The most amazing things I have done with or to my boat.

o Stories about boat owner partnerships. Do they always suck?

o Excuses for leaving work early to go skiing.

o The water skiing equivalent of Letterman's "Brushes with
Greatness", or "I saw Bob LaPoint snorting the inside of an HO
ski" (see Herb O'Brien posting if you don't get it).

All kidding aside, there must be some good ideas for articles out
there, and you will get full credit if one of yours is published. I
love to talk skiing, so drop me a line. For everyone's enjoyment,
please post article ideas to this group.

For those that walked out to their tow vehicles in New England
this morning and muttered "Ah, Sh!t. It's cold and wintery again"
(especially Wayne!) I just wanted to let you know that the
Merrimack river is NOT FROZEN anymore between MP&M to north of
    the Tyngsboro bridge.

    Rick

It won't be long now! Let's see we could use that Skycrane to
launch from the Tyngsboro bridge, then have two coconuts
    delivered by African swallows and....

    		never mind!

Well i guess i can't blame anyone. It was awfully nice to stand on

bare pavement in my driveway and drink a cold one.

I know i get thinking about launching around this time of year,

but i try and slap myself into sanity, cause i'll go crazy if i

start thinking about it.

Now where did they put the keys to the travellift??????????????

1140.7Last weekend would have been good!SALEM::JGREENLiving beyond my emotional meansTue Feb 22 1994 12:2613
If I had a hitch on the new tow rig, and the boat wasn't blocked by 3'
drifts, and I thought the Bow NH ramp was clear, I would have been game
for a outing last Sunday. :^) I suspect the water would have been 'open'.

So what I'm saying is, next time we get weather like that, Rick should
volunteer his boat & tow vehicle, and I'll bring the snowblower for the
ramp and a tow chain. The only beach is, unfortunately, upriver of the
power plant so I don't know if the water is open there.

Just think, take a spill water skiing and get 'road rash'.

I think it would be interesting to set up a course on a lake and be
pulled by a snowmobile. It could become a new winter olympics

Just thought I'd try to cheer everyone up.... I just
got off the phone with Overton's and ordering some
tuneup parts, impellor, Kneeboard bridle (Reg ought to
have fun with that! :-) ) binding parts and a few other
assorted Waterskiing/boating things... made me feel good!

BTW: Doug you can trade your TRC (or any other thing that
    resembles a ski I would guess, like maybe Trish's ski :-) )
in on a Rumor and get 150 bucks for it. Of course the Rumor
is $609.95 with double high wraps! Ouch!

up the Merrimack with a skier in tow.... :-)
1140.17Spring commissioning gonna cost BUX this year...SALEM::WHYNOTMalibu SkierMon Mar 14 1994 10:0214
Yeh, I saw the add... If I got the Rumour (right Reg?), I'd be trading
in one of the miscellaneous (sp?) drop ski's under the camp, probably
sawn into three pieces (easier to ship that way.) I'm gonna keep the
TRC for a *rock* ski :^) Before I make the final decision, though, I'm
scheduled to go to the "Malibu Demo Day" on April 23rd when I'll be
trying an HO VTX, but somehow I think I'll end up on the O'brien.

I know what you mean about getting the fever...two of my kids got their
new wetsuits, gloves and suits, and their skis are on order. All I got
was the bills :^( My new upholstery is due next week, and my list is
generated for all the stuff I need to do/buy... Oh PANICK!

    Gotta go...

Congrats on the new boat Jeanne ! I replied to the insurance note
before reading that you had actually *bought* it.

I'm getting anxious. Ordered my hitch last week for the new tow-rig,
though it hasn't arrived yet. Look forward to towing with a V-8 again!
Had to skip the CD player this time around in favor of cubic inches
    under the hood.

Would *really* like to do a March ski. My mental health is suffering!

I just sorta swung by there yesterday and...... guess what !

About 100 yards from the ramp was a pick-up truck with a plow
blade on it - apparently stuck, apparently abandoned.

Since I wasn't in a 4wd vehicle I only went just inside the gate
(except the gate itself is actually missing now). As I turned around
to leave I saw a guy coming from one of the buildings, he was lugging
some scraps of plywood - obviously the truck's driver. We chatted for
a while, I think I've seen him on the river in the summer time.
He had just run out of patience, had intended to go back and fetch
the boat IF he could have opened the ramp. Maybe he did, eventually -
I didn't have mud boots, so I couldn't help him much.

I went last year and it was a pretty good time. Camille Duvall and

be there. The Expo dates are April 7-10, and the times are as follows:
    	Thurs 4/7: 4-8, Fri 4/8: 1-8, Sat 4/9: 10-8, Sun 4/10: 10-4.

It's a good place to suck up to manufacturers reps to schedule demos
of boats and ski equipment, as well as getting deals on other stuff.

Forecast this AM, called for temps below the freezing mark
most of the week. I may be forced to give up breaking any late season
skiing records for yet another year and winterize the boat soon......
Probably not too soon for Jeff, who damn near froze his petutti off
the last time out. Can you say "hypothermia", I knew you could.....

Looking back over the events of last Sunday's outing, I made at least
two mistakes (three if you include leaving the house). First I
over-dressed by using a wetsuit under a drysuit, leaving almost no
mobility resulting in excessive time in the water while I floundered
around into a suitable deepwater start position. Sweatpants and a
sweatshirt would have sufficed. Second mistake was not bringing or
using the wakeboard. That also would have reduced time in the water as
it takes no time at all to pop up on that.

My head was the coldest but I found a cup of coffee and 5 minutes under
the 'heat-lamp' display at Home Depot worked wonders. I would have
stayed longer but got tired of saying "No, I don't need any help,
unless of course you are a doctor".

December 4 is late enough for me this year, the record stands as Dec 9
    (1992)?!?

Santa is planning to make it out next weekend unless the boat gets
frozen in. I was supposed to spell his elf but my sailing gear, wet
suit, winter gloves, boots etc are still in transit from Florida. Did a
sailing regatta in Orlando 2nd-4th and shipped down summer and winter
gear just in case. Was a little lazy and did not ship it right back so
    no suitable gear.

Ps. Santa said he had a blast good wind and enough chop to take

    OK, I'm REALLY jealous now.

At lunch I decided to head up to the Pheasant Lane
Mall from Tewksbury. It being a nice day and all I
decided to put the top down on the jeep and take the
back roads. My route took me along the Merrimack River
up Pawtucket Blvd. On the way back, I noticed a lot of
waves on an otherwise glasslike surface of the river.

There it was, a blue and white ski boat, directly
out from the N. Chelmsford ramp! I didn't get a good
look at the brand, and they weren't towing .... YET!

I knew I should have held off winterizing the bassboat!
