1138.0. "Prop Purchases outside the USA" by SNMFS::BOWMAN () Thu Dec 23 1993 21:48

    id like some information on propellors to suit mercs
    ive heard there are some catalogues which deal only in propellors
    and would really appreciate it if some kind soul could send me
    one of these scarce things.
    im not sure but i beleive there are a number of companys who
    modify props as well.
    ive also been looking for a number for keikerhofer??
    as i beleive they modify props.
    i cant use their 1-800 number on an o/s call

    id also appreciate it if someone in the states could tell me the
    name and phone number of a dealer i could order through.

    the reason for this. - im led to beleve a propellor that costs us $700
    costs $300 in the u.s.a
    and the $1500 costs about $500-$700

    thanks for all the help

1138.21-800 calls from outside the U.S.SALEM::WHYNOTMalibu SkierTue Dec 28 1993 09:1938
Reg,
    I don't have any prop info for you, but there is a way to make 800
    calls from a DTN from outside the U.S. This was lifted (without
    permission  ;^)  from another conference...

    Regards,
    Doug
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------
(Cross-posted from JETSAM::DTN notes conference)

In response to requests from Digital employees outside the U.S. for the ability
to make calls to 800 Service numbers in the United States, we have implemented
a method for providing this service.

Use of this service incurs the cost of a call to Maynard, Massachusetts.
The call to Massachusetts is routed at the lowest cost to DEC, either
over leased lines or over the public network, as with other DTN calls
from your location.

To use this service, dial DTN 223-1-800. Wait for your call to be routed
to Maynard, at which point you will hear a dial tone. Dial the last
seven digits of the 800 Service number followed by a pound sign (number
sign, or square on some telephones).

For example: DTN 223 1800 <delay, dialtone> 344 4825 #

This service is only available from Touch-Tone (DTMF) telephones.

Charging begins when you hear the delayed dialtone.

This service may also be used from locations outside Massachusetts
to reach 800 Service numbers specific to Massachusetts.

This service reaches only 800 numbers which are accessable to Massachusetts
callers. Consequently, some 800 numbers may not be reachable.

(Please send EMail to PHONES::KOTOK if you have any problems with this service)

re .1:

Yup, and by far the worst service. I wouldn't recommend them, especially
for an overseas buyer.
1138.4things changeMR3MI1::BORZUMATOTue Dec 28 1993 11:2724

    Yes and no. several years ago, i had an experience with them,

    louzy service, almost difficult to do business with.

    Last summer i order several items. Somethings changed, they

    went way out of their way to tp get info from the mfgr,

    and actually called me back. unfortunately, i had to return

    one item, didn't work, no hastle.

    It is based on this last experience that i made my recommendation,

    however several years ago, it certainly would have been different.

    Times have changed, (IMHO) and the business climate is certainly

    different, especially for marine suppliers, maybe they recognized

    this.

    YOU COULD ALWAYS TRY BOAT U.S. 800 937 BOAT

    actually most of these that will be recommended to you will

    be discount houses. i've found for the most part, the larger

    suppliers prices are pretty close.

    reg, its boating season where you are, correct... just to

    give you a perspective, it was zero deg. f at my house this morning,

    not doing much boating today....

    Hey Other Reg,

    	If you don't feel like calculating time zones, write a note
    in this conference and check the timestamp. It displays Eastern
    Standard time (US, East coast)....

    Rick... I'm only a little jealous of anyone that's boating right now...
1138.9its nice hereSNMFS::BOWMANWed Dec 29 1993 17:5011

    i can understand you not being keen to jump in the
    water where you are at the moment.
    were lucky here although we had a little cold snap over the weekend
    and the water was warmer than the outside temp.
    really nice for playing around in.

    once again thanks for the extra info ill follow up
    ill also check this timestamp.

1138.10more numbers plsSNMFS::BOWMANMon Jan 03 1994 21:1020

    ive been trying the dtn 2231800 number but to no avail im afaid.
    i rang michigan wheel on their standard number
    but i think their on holidays as im only getting an answering machine.
    also if i could get the other number for mr boats it would be
    appreciated.

    some other numbers id love would be ron hill propellors
    and also keikerhofer <-"i know its spelt wrongly"

    the propellors im after would be used for ski racing
    perhaps modified choppers and cleavers about 26 inch pitch.
    ive tried a couple of hoss props but actualy lose top end compared
    to a cut down chopper.

    thanks again for all the help.

    Reg, I saw an ad in the back of Trailer Boat Mag for a Marine supply
    place in California that deals in all the major outboard brands. They
    claim "worldwide shipping available". The mag is out in my truck and
    we're in the middle of a blizzard here so you will have to wait until
    tomorrow for me to post a tel and fax number.

    ive tried michigan wheel however the salesman said they
    dont get into high performance props. ive discovered they do
    have a distributor here called austral propellors,ive checked
    out austral and their range is not quite what im after.
    im still out there hunting them there props.

    thanks for the leads so far
