I've got a 18 ft stingray, with a mercruiser i/o for a motor The boat occaisionaly has a quite a bit of water in it, even when it hasn't rained. I pulled the boat, and found no potentail hull leaks. Is it possible water could be coming in through the stern drive? Ken

Yep, probably through the "bellows". Sometimes you can see a trickle if you take the motor cover off, sometimes its easier to find by putting the boat on its trailer, leave the plug in and run a garden hose in the bilge until you see a trickle coming OUT of the boat. BTW, how many hours and what year ? There seems to be an average life for the bellows. > Ken Reg | |||||

I had a similar problem with a 19 ft. Bayliner with a 130 merc. I/O. I brought it home and put the garden hose into the bilge and when the water reached the level of the bottom of the exhaust, water came out from the exhaust port. My repair man has seen this and it was caused by loose bolts on the lower portion of the I/O. Replaced bolts and "O" ring and is now as good as new. $185.00 total of which $175.00 was labor. Good Luck |
