1069.0. "Companionway Hatch Locks? How are they supposed to work?" by TOOK::SWIST (Jim Swist LKG2-2/T2 DTN 226-7102) Tue Jul 06 1993 16:29
No topic on locks on boats, so here goes.
My boat has these cylindrical locks on the companionway hatch in order
to secure access to the cabin. Neither one is working right. You
can rotate the cylinder (which turns a catch on the inside of the
hatch) with or without the key in the latch. On one of them if
you jiggle and fiddle with it long enough, it will stay locked
(with 50% probability of it being locked *open*, of course).
Any ideas? Should in fact the cylinder not rotate when the key is
removed? Are they broken or do they need lubrication?
