I haven't heard anything about the sale of OMC's sterndrive division
to Volvo, but there's no way I will believe that the parts will be hard
to get. There's a lot of OMC I/Os out there, and that means money
keeping them running for years to come.

The other issue is there is a requirement that they supply parts for
ten years after end of production. Didn't OMC buy 4 Winns Boat Co.?
does that mean that they will be using Volvo drives? They lost alot of
business when they switched and did not offer Mercruiser drives with
their boats.
Very interesting, I wonder how true it is?

1064.3 | It's true | MCIS2::WILSON | Is it 1996 yet? | Mon Jun 21 1993 13:33 | 15 |
| The OMC/Volvo Stern drive merge or buyout is definitely true,
it's been written up in several magazines.
OMC has been the U.S. leader in outboards for years, but has
never been overly successful in stern drives. They shot the
wad on the Cobra drive, and the immediate problems with stretched
cables and bad clutch dogs and gears doomed it.
This merge is basically OMC throwing in the towel, and conceding
that they Merc and Volvo will continue to dominate the market.
As far as availability of parts, I would ass-u-me that parts will
continue to be available for quite some time.

1064.4 | OMC shake-up | UNYEM::RECUPAROR | | Mon Jun 21 1993 17:50 | 8 |
| I also heard that OMC just fired the President of Four Winns. So there
seems to be a big shake-up going on in OMC.
I also talked to two other people ,that have OMC stern drives, and both
have expierenced 1-2 week waits for parts. Anybody else expierencing
long waits for OMC stern drive parts?
