    Dear inexperienced boat shopper,
    
    You've got it *all* wrong, what you do is deal, research, walk away and
    *keep* walking!! :-)  I won't even bore you with the adage re. what a
    boat is, I'm sure you've heard it and read it a few thousand times -
    just bear in mind, it's true!
    
    My one comment is that the price sounds a little high to me.  Have you
    looked at '91's (never used), you might find you'll save 1-2k dollars.
    Is the purchase price you quoted with trailer, compass, etc.?
    
    Just question the dealers on what "unused" boats they have in stock and
    see what kind of a deal you can work from there.

    	I get the impression that these prices quoted are much to high 
    	for those particular models, and thats exactly the kind of 
    	input I am looking for.  
    
    	Btw... on the Bayliner consideration, I am only interested
    	in reasons why to or not to purchase it based on fact!
    
    	... in the meantime I will keep pounding the pavement!

    One other comment on the 17' bowrider.  Depending on the kind of water
    you'll have her in, you want to take the depth of the hull into
    consideration.  Bayliner's typically don't have a deep hull, therefore,
    you "feel" the water more than you would a deeper hull craft.  I used
    to own a 19' Capri (Bayliner) and now I own a 19' Larson and the
    difference in significant.  I feel like I'm really cutting through the
    water.
    
    There are alot of facts pro and con re. the Bayliner.  You might just
    want to test drive your final three choices and see which one feels the
    best.

    Concerning Bayliner, I own a '92 19 foot "Classic". It's been through
    2 summers (actually 1 1/2, last summer was a waste). I use it on a
    lake in northern PA. Have experienced no problems. I think US Marine
    has done an excellent job with turning the quality around.
    
    BTW-bought it July '91, $9999 with 3 Liter Mercruiser and trailer.
    
    I thought the 17ft was just a little too small.

    Have you stopped in at "Performance Marine" on RT12 in South Oxford?
    
    Friend of mine said they were very nice todo business with, and
    he used to work on boats for the present owner of Webster lake
    marine.

    	No I haven't even heard of Performance Marine, I looked in the
      Worcester area Yellow pages and they weren't there.  Any chance
      they may have gone away????

    Performance Marine is located just off RT-12 in south Oxford, Ma.
    Maybe they don't advertize in the Worcester Yellow pages.
    
    I pass thier place everyday on 395.  
    
    Take exit 3, turn right off the ramp, right at the stop sign
    300 feet down and your next right off Rt-12.  I don't
    remember if there's a sign on 12 pointing there or not.
    
    Thier service dept is really highly rated..  Yard is always
    full...

    I used to live in Oxford 17 years ago (my parents still do).  Back then
    Oxford, Webster, and Dudley had their own phone book with it's own
    yellow pages.  Maybe why you didn't see them in Worcester's yellow
    pages.  Also, there is a real good trailer place just up the road.
    They only sell complete trailers wholesale but they do have trailer
    parts retail at the parts counter.

    My experience is that any boat under 18-19' has space at a premium. An
    outboard certainly frees up a lot of useable space that an i/o would
    take up with the motor box while an outboard puts it "behind you". 

    An I/O will also cause a small boat to be very aft-heavy, leading
    to exciting views of the sky before getting on plane.

    	We shall see with this rig, supposedly the SSV2 hull planes
        much quicker... maybe  mumbo jumbo but we'll see.

    
    
    	No sky views here....
    
    	Took delivery of the boat last Friday.  With Power tilt/trim
        this thing stays pretty level.  Very stable hull, smooth no
        slapping, great turn capabilities!
    
    	I couldn't be happier
