| re: .5
Yes, the "New England Boat Show", listed in .0 is in Boston.
The January show traditionally called the "Boston Boat Show"
at the World trade Center is canceled, as far as I can tell.
It's missing from several listings that I've checked.

| For those on the west coast the Grandaddy of shows at the LA Convention
center is 29-Jan thru 7-Feb 93. This usually has something for
everyone. My wife and I used it several years ago to determine we
couldn't afford a new boat. We still go every year to see what is new
though.

1032.12 | Read this before driving to the Boston Show | GOLF::WILSON | Don't blame me, I voted for Ross | Thu Feb 11 1993 09:56 | 11 |
| For any Trailer Boats Magazine readers who are planning on attending
the New England Boat Show at the Bayside Expo Center in Boston, there's
a *major* typo in the show schedule published in their February issue.
In the "Calendar of Events", they list the show as being from
February 13 thru the 21st. The show is actually from February
20th thru the 28th. I've verified this, and the magazine's listing
is wrong. If you go this coming weekend, you'll find the Sportsman's
Show, not the Boat Show.

I received an invitation to attend a sales event at Valley Marine, Rindge NH.
They enclosed a 'discount check' should you buy a boat that day and a 10% coupon
on other purchases.
Has anyone attended these kinds of sales gatherings before? Are they worthwhile
to attend?
Anyone else get one of these letters?
Doug.

If that's the case, then bring it in and tell them you'd like them to
cash it. Half of a $2000 check isn't bad at all for a drive to Rindge.
I suspect these things are somewhat of a scam. Not that you won't get
$2000 off the *list* or inflated price of a boat, but that you could
probably get the same discount if you walked in any other day without
the "check".
This is prime selling season for boats. Dealers haven't started giving
anything away just yet.
Also, the 10% off on accessories for boat buyers is pretty much standard.
Nearly any dealership will give you that if you ask.

1032.18 | Junk mail... | SMURF::PINARD | | Tue May 18 1993 12:03 | 5 |
| I really didn't pay much attention to it, once I saw it was a
non-negotiable check used as a selling gimmick... I've gotten them
before... Once I signed up once or twice at boat shows for prizes, you
get alot of marine junk mail...

He had a lot of boats. They had 'Market Value' numbers and 'Sale price' numbers
on each of them. Some where marked 'minus half the value of the promo check'.
His prices were HIGH! But surprisingly, many of the boats were sold!
No wonder he was smiling ...

The Boat show at the Centrum January 13 thru the 16th(I think)
hours are 4-10 weeknights and 11-9 weekends. The price is 6 bucks.
BTW: If anyone is looking for a barefoot wetsuit, and can wear
an XL, Valley Marine has one BI suit leftover for 97 bucks. A real
steal that is just a little to large for me! ARGH! It's a shortie,
of course, with half sleeves and padding in all the correct places.
The boat show itself was a bit sparse. That means; "THERE WERE
NO NAUTIQUES!!!!!", but the deals on ski gear were pretty good.
Another member of this conference picked up and HO XL? wakeboard
for 150 clams.
Not to mention that the Carver was marked down to only 100k! :-)
