I have 2 of these. They are rebuildable, Dipietro-Kay in
Ct. sells the pumps and parts...
Ya know the cover of the pump could be loose.
Also there is an O-ring on the cover, it could be shot...
Can you be more specific than "the area of the water pump""
Jim. Or call me at 264-3378

| I'm kinda jumping back and forth between this note and note 995 (temp
gauge problem) because I've decided to rebuild the water pump even
though I'm not convinced that it is causing my problem of "overheating"
at idle. I was able to get all the needed rebuild parts from my source
in Michigan. DiPietro-Kay also carried them but the guy in Michigan
had Fed Expressed them to me overnight before I found out that
DiPietro-Kay had the parts alot cheaper.
I managed to get the woodruff key out by drilling a series of holes in
it to weaken it. I then used I punch to bend the sides in. After 26
years it had just bonded itself to the shaft. I'm off to buy a new key
this morning and put it back together.
Question: my manual for the engine calls for greasing the insides of
the pump when re-assembling with "Texaco Star-flex #2 grease". This
manual is a photocopy of a 26 year old original manual and I doubt I'm
going to run out to the local Texaco station or NAPA store and find
this grease anymore. What can I use as a substitute? Manual says to
coat the seals, bearings, and impeller prior to reassembly. I will
assume that I need some type of waterproof grease like an I/O lube?
Thanks, Wayne
