962.0. "Cellular Phones" by LEVERS::SWEET () Mon Apr 06 1992 13:25

    I will need to put a cellular phone in the grady to meet the
    new comercial requirements. Any recommendations as to brands, features
    or installation.

    Thanks,

962.1Skip the "marine" onesSUBSYS::CHESTERMon Apr 06 1992 13:4816
    You have two basic choices here. The "marine" one and the other kind.
    For marine read high price. For the other shop around. I bought one
    for $100 two years ago. So far no problems. I never have permately
    installed the phone. So I can take it out and use it in my car. The
    only thing I did to was to add 12 outlet in the cabin and a "marine"
    cellular ant. Works out to P-Town.

    Nice to have the CG # programmed in. This year Nymex will support
    the *CG for emergancy calls just like the *SP for state police.. Much
    better response and you don't have to compete with the "bluefish
    report's" on 16.

    Buy the cheap one and put it in the cabin.

962.2The Uniden does me wellMR4DEC::GSHAWMon Apr 06 1992 15:108
    I like the Uniden. I use a Transportable because I can use it between
    my car and boat. I found the antena attached to the unit works quit
    well at sea. Uniden also makes a good Ship to Shore.
    You can buy one at the Cell One stores for under $100.00 if you
    subscribe with them. I would suggest you get the $26.00 subsription
    (forgot what they called it) because the rates on the weekend is very
    low, and thats when you would be using it the most.
    Good luck
962.3I'll second that !!!!!!!SALEM::PAPPALARDOMon Apr 06 1992 17:187

    I'll second the Uniden. I have the portble CP1500 with Cellular One
    service. The off hours and weekend rate is alsmost 50% less.

962.4New regs?DNEAST::OKERHOLM_PAUTue Apr 07 1992 08:429
    Re .0>
    Bruce,
    	I haven't got the details of the latest changes to the commercial
    fishing safety regs. I let my National Fisherman subscription lapse and
    don't remember getting anything in the mail from Uncle Sam yet. Could
    you summarize the requirements? I'd appreciate knowing what I'm
    violating...cuz I'm sure there's no way I can afford to meet them. :^)

962.5Try LeachmeireAKOCOA::LIBBYTue Apr 07 1992 11:2819
    I have ordered a unit from Leachmeire, it may be a uniden, but for
    $29.95 on sale, who cares what brand it is, if it doesn't work I'll
    take it back and up grade. It's transportable, which means it is a
    single unit includeing antena, but needs a power source.

    Now for the good news Cellular One has a plan called the "Leisure" plan
    for $29 monthly. peak rates (7 am to 7 pm week days) $.50 per min, off
    peak (7pm to 7am week days, weekends, and 4 named holidays) no charge.
    the coverage area is from Portsmith NH to the cape, includeing
    Nantucket, and the Vinyard, but does not cover all of Buzzards bay. It
    also goes west to Worster.

    Currently my monthly long distance charges from Salem NH to Lynn and
    Haverhill run about $35, both of these are local calls by Cellular, so
    I have the potential to save money on the deal, and have a unit for the
    car and boat.

    Leachmeire has a rate sheet for Cellular one showing the calling plans
    and the coverage area.
