939.0. "WaterSki Pro-shops" by CSLALL::JEGREEN (Cuz I luv that [icy] dirty water) Wed Jan 08 1992 12:24

    A couple of the waterski 'pro-shops' advertise that they will meet or
    beat any mailorder catalog on price. I couldn't find any other notes
    that dealt with pro shops although there were some topics on equipment
    and mail-order places. Unless there is a more appropriate note, let's
    use this one to discuss local pro-shops (brands, sales, clinics, etc)

    I'll start off with three:

    My present favorite, due to it's close proximity, is Baert Marine in
    Plaistow. They claim to have the largest pro-shop inventory in New
    ENgland. The carry skis (Connelly, Kidder, HO, Obrien), wetsuits &
    drysuits, apparel, tubes, ropes, wakeboards, etc. The equipment I've
    bought there has been at/or below catalog cost. No sales tax either.
    Baert also stocks a large selection of marine hardware & accessories.
    They are a dealer for Maxum, Ski Centurion, and Grady White boats.

    Valley Marina, Rte 202, Rindge NH, 603-899-3378
    I was talking to Tom, one of the owners last week, and he said they
    have increased their pro-shop. They carry the new Heat Wave line of
    wetsuits in addition to ski's, ropes, apparell, etc. They claim to be
    price competitively with catalog sales, and in addition they will
    pay you [discount your purchase] 25 cents a mile [one-way] to buy from
    them on purchases of $100 or more. They are a dealer for Malibu and
    Flightcraft boats. They are located on Lake Monomonac. In the past they
    have had barefoot clinics with Mike Siepel, and Brian Fuch.

    Owens Marine in Manchester NH, rte 28 bypass, has a moderate pro-shop.
    They carry skis, wetsuits, drysuits, ropes, apparell. I've found them
    to be more money than the other 2 places. They are a dealer for Ski
    Supreme boats.  603-622-5899

    There most be more places,

939.1Colorado's only REAL pro shop.COMET::KLEINMNOTHING IS TOO EXTREMEWed Mar 25 1992 00:1318
    The best Pro shop out here in Colorado is WATER SKI SPECIALTY located
    in Denver,well,Westminster actually,a suburb of Denver.

    They offer a complete demo program.
    They have a 30 day satisfaction/performance gaurantee
    They will meet or beat any advertised price except close out items
    or blemished stuff.
    they carry Connelly,Kidder,Jobe,and Obrien water skis.
    they carry Ski warm,Bare and Eagle wetsuits.
    They stock Straight line,Connelly,Advantage ARS,and World Class lines
    and handles.

    I have been exceptionally pleased with them on every occasion.
    Out here,they don't really have any competition but they don't let that
    get to their heads.

                 They will be Malibu/flighty promo reps this year.
939.2Celebrity WeekendSALEM::MOEFri Mar 27 1992 08:4815
    For those that might be interested, Baert Marine in Plastow is having
    what they call a Waterski Sale and Celebrity Weekend on March 28 & 29.
    An add in last nights paper said "Meet in Person" Cory Pickos - World
    Champion Trick Skier, Dave Reinhart - World Champion Freestyle Skier,
    Carl Roberge - 3 Time Masters Champion and 9 Time US Open Overall
    Champion, and Darrin Shapiro - National Skiboard Champion and World
    Record Holder. It did not give an exact time that they would be there,
    however if you call I am sure they could tell you. The add looked like
    it had some super sales including 30 to 40% off on '91 Ski War wetsuits,
    and 50% off on '91 Kidder Skis. They are also offering Free trip to
    Orlando (Airfare and Car) to the first 50 Customers to purchase any ski
    over $400.00, restrictions do apply.

    	Greg (who still misses Peter from Baert's and all the good deals he
              gave me in the past)

	Yup, they're serious about getting everything outta there.
I blew about 115% of a mortgage payment on saturday, went back on
sunday to find the store looking a lot bigger (more space). There are
still quite a few skis left, also small (very small, child sizes)
wetsuits. For someone who could fit in it (Jeanne ?) and REALLY wants
it there is a Sahara dry suit for $100  {typically $299 M/O}

PS	A very moderate mortgage, fortunately (-:

939.6One down - one upASDS::BURGESSWaiting for ZEUS to comeWed May 19 1993 13:3627
	Well, since the topic is awakened....

	I went back to W/S + a couple of days after the sale to
return a "medium" farmer john style wetsuit that I had bought for
$100. A heckuva deal, except it was in fact a "small" at best.
Although all sales were 'final' I got "most favored customer"
treatment and just couldn't resist the O'Brien Synergy TC that was
about 3 inches too short for me - but at $270 (minus $100 for the
wetsuit) it WAS irresistible. Due to many factors I didn't get to
ski on it last year. Due to winter fat it is now 4 or 5 inches too
short for me, but the ski is a lot of fun and will probably be only 2
inches too short by the end of this season.

	So, where else to shop ?

	Zimmermann's in Nashua is carrying O'Brien stuff and I think
they're going to be getting Kidder as well. I was in there a couple
of times toward the end of the sn*w season (thats how I know this) and
I dropped off copies of Bart's and Overton's catalogues to help them
with their pricing (-:

Where ? oh, just outside the Peasant Brain Mall - on DWH, sort of
near to UNO's Pizza, I think its called "Ski Chalet"

939.7Looking for skis/tube... etcIAGO::PROVENCALMon Apr 11 1994 16:4712
Hi,

I'm a new boat owner and am trying to find some local shops to go and
look for skis/tube, etc. Nothing real fancy. I have a 5 year old that
wants to try tubing this year.. and possibly skiing, as well as a husband
who hasn't skiied for years... but is dying to give it another try.

ANy suggestions?

We live in Fitchburg.

Thanks
939.8Here's a couple of places close to Fitchburg.HOWLIN::NPARETue Apr 12 1994 10:3121

    	re -1	I'm from Fitchburg too and the places that I usually go to
    are Tri-City Marine on route 2A just before Lunenburg center and Valley
    Marina on route 202 (take a right on 202 just before Winchindon (sp)
    center (approx.1/2mile) to just the NH border. Both have pretty good
    selections, prices are close (you need to compare) but in NH you save
    the Mass.tax.

    	Since I work in LKG, if I need something in a hurry, Tri-City is on
    the way and close to home. Valley Marina is a little longer ride but
    what else is there to do on a rainy Saturday/Sunday afternoon but to
    go on a joy ride and look/buy/spend on boat stuff ;-)........

    	Of course there is always KMart/Rich's/Prime Value and other
    discount stores that has boating stuff sales every so often.

    	Norm

    PS: Boating is almost here :-) and add usual disclaimer here.......

939.9Generic ski outlets - and long wide skis wanted.NOTAPC::BURGESSTue Apr 12 1994 10:5528
re .7

	I replied to the author by mail, but just thought I'd also
comment here. The request was for "Nothing real fancy" I suggested
USA Marine on Rte #20 in Worcester {near Shrewsbury line} Gauche and
Doug Russel. Also Hermans, there is probably one at SearsTown Mall.

re .8

	I'm a little embarassed to admit that, for some odd reason, I
never seem to think of Fitchburg MASS and Ringe NH as being close to
each other - though I've done enough bicycle rides in the area to know
that they aren't far apart. Anyways, I tend to think of Valley as
being more toward "pro shop" than "Nothing Real Fancy".

re  ..beginner skis in general

	I'm casually looking around for another pair of "learner
combos" the ideal would be a pair of LONG plywood skis with very wide
tails and bindings that open up for LONG and WIDE feet - preferrably
around $59.9x (-: Yes, I have an oversized student this year - and
yes Rick, its nobody you know (-: Of course, an old pair of jumper
skis would be I_D_E_A_L ! and we could play other games with them -
but they ain't cheep.

	Reg, It's about 20 minutes to Valley Marina from my house so that's
 not what I consider far. And yes, Valley has Pro equipment, but they also
 have beginner stuff at good prices (Combo skis ~~ $110.00, Kid beginner skis
 ~~ $50/60.00) and sometimes they will match mail-order catalog prices.

	As I said, what else is there to do on a Saturday/Sunday afternoon
 other than a joy ride checking/spending money on toys :-)......
