P.S. to the Marriott at Byscane Bay.. (sp??)
I stayed there myself 3 years in a row and stayed there. It was
such a TERRIFIC time. I took a cab from the airport to the hotel
and from then on had no problems with transportation. Many exibitors
and factory reps stay there a I hooked a ride in the Vans from there
to the boat show. There VERY large boats stay there and if you don't
meet the owners the Captains and crew of the yaughts are very friendly,
and I got to board some beautiful ones. Security is VERY high in this
hotel and between "Tugboat Anne's" next door you are free to walk
around the docks and go bar-to-bar without worry. They don't want
anything to happen to you. I travel to boat shows alone and being a
woman alone never felt uncomfortable.

I believe it's at the Bayside expo sometime in Feb around the 22.
According to some dealers at the sept sportfishing show, the one in Feb
willbe the big one. They said the show was 3/4 full back in sep.
If anyone has the dates please post them.

| RE - World Trade Center
At the Worcester show this weekend, I was told that the World Trade
Center Show was cancelled. Another person had not heard this. The
end result is that I have no idea.
Worcester was probably a disappointment to the knowledgable. I am a
rank novice interested in buing a used low-price first boat, for me
the show exposed me to some things I've ony read about - the last boat
show I went to was with my Grandfather and he died in 1960 - so the
show was interesting. If you had questions the people were available
to talk Saturday night. Low turn out of exhibitors and customers.

| I was at Baert Marine just befor Xmas, talking to sales manager I
bought my boat from and he said they were only going to do one Boston
show this year, the New England Boat Show at the Bayside in late
February. He said they were not going to the Boston show in late
January this year. He said that last year they had really jacked up the
rates and turnout had been disappointing. This year they had really
lowered the rates for exhibitors but people were turned off from last
year and that in this economy they could not justify two shows. He said
he would not be surprised if the Boston show was eventually cancelled.

Last year i spoke with one of the vendors at the show.
I was amazed at the cost of floor space. If my memory serves
right, i think it was $2K for a 10'x10'.
Guessing that boat sales are not the best, its becomes difficult
to justify that expense.

We do not have a good feeling about boat sales this season.
There are also so many used tow-boats out there for such ridiculus

Went yesterday. They had a very good turn out.
I'm sure they are feeling the pinch. E&B marine had a special
phone set-up. The prices they had were good only if you ordered
the item right there, using their hotline to New Jersey. Guess
they want to get rid of some inventory. I wasn't looking
for anything particular so their prices didn't mean much to me.
One thing i did notice, the more than typical number of
"snake oil" sellers. We had... Wonder Teak oil, Never oil
again, Self applying teak oil, Amazing teak oil, Spray on
Teak oil,............. All guaranteed to only have to be
applied once each season.
NOTE: the above names are ficticious, but you get the idea.
They certainly prey on their buyers. The teak they use has
never been out in the weather, and people are amazed
(read:: stupid) to see how it turns out, when they apply the
teak oil. OH YAH, the prices were absurd.
On the whole it was a good show, the place was packed with displays.
I was looking for info on a few items, and found it.
For the fishermen, there was a 30' Fortier with twin volvo
diesels for 95K striped. For about 110-115K you could have
a pretty well dressed boat.

| I went yesterday as well. All in all it was a good show, most but not
all models were represented. I was mainly there to look at fishing
boats 25' and up and missed some of the ones I wanted to see
(robolo, quest, rampage, pursuit, etc). The regulars were there,
grady,whaler,etc.
I like the 28' stamas the best except for the price. I would liked to
have seen the 26' stamas.
Lots of smaller boats, center consoles, ski boats, pontoon, pleasure
craft.
This show had more or a selection than the past few shows I've been to.

Well, I went to the boat show at the Bayside last night and
I was pretty impressed by the number of boats that were there.
There was a fair number of Tournament boats on display.
But the worst part of it is that I saw a boat that I really
would like to have. Anyone know anyone interested in a very clean
1988 BAJA 174 Sunsport with a 205 HP I/O........seriously.
Anyone who is THINKING of buying a new boat, but may not REALLY
want to buy one, should not go to a boat show. :-)

934.30 | The Boatshow from a fishing perspective | DNEAST::OKERHOLM_PAU | | Mon Mar 02 1992 12:22 | 35 |
| I had the pleasure of attending a four day training class in
Acton last week so I took advantage of it and went to the boat show
Wednesday evening. Overall I think it was pretty good. I wish I had
more time to do it justice.
I was more interested in equipment than boats this year and
did manage to accomplish a few things in that area. I ordered 2 gel
cell batteries at a good price. I also found out that my Bennet Trim
Tabs are still covered by their 5 year warranty. One of mine went
south last season and I figured I'd have to foot the bill for the repair,
that alone made the show worth the trip.
As far as the boats are concerned, I just got impressions because
of my lack of time. The new Whaler models did not impress me. They don't
exhibit the Mercedes like quality of the past and the layout of the 27'
just didn't turn me on. The Bayliner walk around however actually looked
good...of course I wouldn't go in it though, someone might see me. ;^).
I saw a boat that I swore was a Blackwatch but it had a different
name on it. I guessed that it was a Blackwatch laid out for non fishing
types...something that I could not comprehend.
I really liked the 23' HydraSport. It had a 9 1/2' beam and that
really gives you a lot more boat in that length. Aquasport doesn't make
my model anymore (22'x 8'). They have a 21 and a 23 by 8 1/2'. The 21 was
at the show and looked good. The extra 6" really makes a difference. I
saw a picture of the 25...not my kind of boat; you know, one of those things
that look like there going 60 knots even when they are standing still.
Of course the old standbys were there too. Grady, Sea Ox, Mako;
didn't see anything really different there.
This week I'll go to the August Maine boat show. Its not 1/10 the
size of the New England show but I always pick up good info. The major
dealers are there but each category isn't 10 deep. You can also get the
attention of knowledgable dealers/factory reps as well.
Its almost time to pull the canvas. Unfortunately, however, a 35
degree below zero wind chill factor Saturday and somewhere areound 10
below today isn't conducive to thoughts of sun screen and tee shirt boating
activities.

934.31 | Bennett, darn good support. | PIPPER::BORZUMATO | | Mon Mar 02 1992 12:45 | 21 |

On the Bennett trim tab issue.
In 82 i bought a 1974 model yr. boat that came with Bennett tabs.
During my 2nd season the joy stick/switch died.
For some reason the locals didn't have it, and referred me
to Bennett. I explained that i had bought the boat awhile
ago and had no idea when or who installed the tabs.
They warranted the switch, and only asked that i return the
old one for the new. They were very concerned as to why
the old had failed.
I don't know if they will do it today, but last season
i installed a set on the boat i own today. i can't say
enough for them, i needed some additional parts to complete
the installation and they bent over backwards to accomodate
me
Jim.

| I went to the show sat. Like all the previous replies I agree "more
boats than the last several years". I talked to a dealer or two and
they said they were selling boats....a good sign. I had not seen a fortier
before but I have to have I know why they are popular as charter
boats. The 26 has a 10 foot beam and comes with a 200hp volvo diesel
for 47K, not bad at all. I know I am biased, but the Grady's are
still one of the best quality and best laid out boats around for
fishing.
