I have a question, I have a 85 hp force motor on a Spectrum 1706. I am wondering how fast it should be able to go. Also will the speed increase with some tuning of a different prop or anyway that anyone knows to increase the speed. Currently it has a top end of around 35-39 depending on trim, weight etc. Thanks for any help (John Dixon using Steve Matscherz's account)

Hi, How do you like the 1706? I have one with a 50HP force. I get 30MPH out of it with just me and standard equipment and 2 six gallon tanks on board. I was considering the 85HP but if all it will increase my speed to is 35-39 MPH I probably won't bother. I don't ski with it, just fish and Scuba once in a while. What year is your boat? mine is a 1989. P

You didn't mention what the pitch is on your prop, that could make a difference in your top speed. I have a 17foot Maxum (fiberglass) with an 85 hp Force and can go 35 mph with 2 other people and ski gear, which I guess is around 1900-2100 lbs. I have a 15 pitch prop on the motor now. If you have a tach on your boat check the RPMs at say 30mph. Talk to your dealer about trying a higher pitch prop and check the RPMs again at 30mph and top speed under similar water conditions as before. be carefull to not over rev your engine while trying props. Any loss in holeshot might be corrected by a whaletail or Doel-fin type device. Mike H.

Any more comments on Spectrum Boats and Force engines would be appreciated. I was going to look at a new 18ft bowrider with a 90H.P. Thanks / / Mike G. ^^^^^^^<<#######@^^^^^^^^^^^ |
