814.0. "Source for inboard water pump mounting bracket" by MR4DEC::DCADMUS () Fri Mar 22 1991 13:11

    I need some info on a source far a raw water pump mounting bracket.

     I have an (originally ) 225 HP OMC I\O that has been upgrade to a
    350 GMC block from the original 307 Chevvy block. I have added FWC with
    an oversize heat exchanger, but due to raw water pump limitations,
    cannot FWC the manifolds, only the block , or else she overheats.

     The problem is simply not enough capacity from the )(&*(*^^%$##
    pump mounted in the lower unit. (At least these old OMC pumps are fairly
    easy to change)

     I have a brand new raw water pump that I can mount externally , but
    because of space limitationns, the pump must be mounted either under
    the alternator on the port (L.H.) side, or under the fuel pump
    on the Starboard side.

     I'd like toget a "bolt ON" bracket to mount the pump, which has a flat
    base with two bolt holes that arew slotted. Before I started chasing
    around to Marine dealers, etc, I thought I'd ask in here.

     If I can bolt the pump under the alternator, I have a ,1" seacock
    that I can connect my raw water to pretty easily and it would be a
    pretty easy "plumbing" job to tie to the Heat exchanger raw water
    inlet.

     Anybody have any thoughts on where I can obtain the braket/mount I am
    looking for? The outside dimensions on a Chevvy/GMC 305/307/350
    are all the same.

    Dick (looking at getting ready to paint the bottom- UGGGHHHH!)

     I already have the dual pulleys on the crank,alternator and
    circulating water pump-

    Try Ward Marine in Winthrop MA. If they don't have it or can't
    get it, then it's probably not available.

    Dick,
    Just thought of another option. Check the junkyards (aka Auto
    Recycling Centers). Between all the different brackets made for
    power steering pumps, smog pumps, ac compressors, alternators etc,
    you ought to find something that'll work. Even if it's not for
    a small block Chevy, redrilling the holes or using a spacer or
    two to fit the Chevy block should be no big deal.

    Just don't tell 'em it's for your boat or they'll triple the price!

814.3Try MercKENNY::CHESTERMon Mar 25 1991 12:5011
    Or heaven forbid. Use a Mercruiser pump. There is Mercruiser
    raw water pump that mounts on two threaded holes on the right side
    of the 350 block. WARD marine has a replacement pump for $203.14.
    I don't know if it comes with a pulley or bracket. Your local friendly
    Merc dealer would be happy to sell you those parts for about $2M.

    It has 1.25" hose connections. So it should match up with the hose
    connections on the cooler. This is the same one Merc uses on thier
    454 blocks so it should have enough volume.

814.4Just need bracket- already have pump!MR4DEC::DCADMUSMon Mar 25 1991 14:0910
    re: 814.3
     Great idea. but I already have a Brand new , high volume JABSCO pump
    with a 1 1/4" fittings-complete with pulley- all I need is the bracket
    to mount it on.

     If I went new, I'd go with the Volvo pump- mounts right on the front
    of the pulley- real easy to get to.

     I called Ward on Fri- the two fellows who knew the answers were
    out-I'll call back later.
814.5Osco may also have the bracket.SALEM::NORCROSS_WMon Mar 25 1991 14:525
    You can try Osco's, also. (215-855-8268). They sell complete kits with
    the bracket so I imagine they would sell you just the bracket.
    Their prices have been lower than Ward's for things that I have priced
    out.
