On the question of underpower, I would say YES, it is
underpowered.
Here's my guess as to why.. Throwing a dart, i figure the
boat weighs about 8500# with a 270 (shame its a chevy)
your h.p to weight ratio is 31:1. ITS GOONA BE A DOG.
Plus your gonna have to run up higher in the rpm range
to plane it. A 454 belongs in this rig, or twin something
else.
The rule is don't underpower, you use a lot more fuel,
and work the engine too hard, if anything overpower,
and cut back on the rpm.
You got some actual weights, to figure a real ratio????

WELL, HERE'S THE DEAL:
WE ENDED UP GOING WITH (NOT CONCRETE YET) A 25' RENKEN WITH THE
SAME COBRA 350/270hp. AS FAR AS WEIGHT, 3,525 IS WHAT THE SPEC. SAYS
AND IT SHOWS THAT THE MAX HP RECOMMENDED IS 270.
AS FOR .2, YOUR ON THE NOSE CUS THE SPEC SHOWS THAT THE RECOMMENDED FOR
THE 26' IS A SINGLE 370 OR TWIN 350 (TOTAL).
ANYONE FOLLOWING, WE WENT WITH THE 25' BECAUSE OF THE LAYOUT BOTH
INSIDE AND OUT AS WELL AS THE POWER DIF. STILL WAITING TO SEE IF THEY
LIKED OUR IDEA OF WHAT THE BOAT SHOULD COST US. BUT, WE'RE KEEPING THE
FINGERS XED.
ANY OTHER NEWS SURE WOULD MAKE US FEEL ALL THE MORE SECURE ABOUT
THIS AND ANY BAD NEWS... WELL, SPEAK NOW BEFORE WE OWN THE BAD NEWS.
THANKS, ROY AND SUE

| Well, since you're begging for negative comments (and please stop
typing in uppercase), I believe Renken hulls are made using chopped
strand rather than fiberglass cloth. Lots of people think this is an
inferior construction technique, although it is difficult to get an
informed opinion.
I looked at Renkens when I bought my last boat. It was obvious that
Renken was a low-end boat, but I didn't see any obvious lack of
quality or workmanship - you get a lot of boat for the money, but be
prepared for very rapid depreciation.

| To whom it may concern the Renken hull has 7 layers of fiberglass cloth
and is not the so called choped hull.I just got the 2100 and i went
threw it with a fine tooth comb before buying it.Also the resale value
is normal for this midclass of boat. You will fine the present market
for any boat distorted at the present time due to the recession this
market is undergoing with all the bank reclaims.

| I don't get it. I have a Renken brochure extolling the virtues of
chopped-stand hulls. (1990).

>.6 i have the 91 and 90 book at home and will see what it says- never
thought to look there. (sorry about the upper case)
>.5 i watched a video at the dealers showing it being built and it made
ref. choped hull but as we remembered: "unlike other co.s who use
choped mat., Renken has a layer process" (spell.)
While we were sitting here recalling the video, we realized that we
don't have a clue as to the diference but were told to stay away
from "all choped" hulls. We do recall the fact that they use
four stringers instead of two. As for .5 and your 2100, if we were
not to get the 2500 that would be our next. the layout is superb
for that size boat unlike the 2600.
