| I'd have to check my references, but the Marathon I looked had some impressive
features that indicated that it may be a better quality boat than first impres-
sion. The reason I say that is that the Marathon I saw at a boat show had some-
thing of a travel trailer, simple, homemade design to it. But then I started to
note details like the stripes and the like weren't taped on, but gel coated into
the hull, quality materials on the deck, and a well layed out helm. They spoke
to me about someone caring about the finished product, even if the boat, over-
all, didn't appeal to me.

| I met a guy at Cuttyhunk a year ago who owned a 25' Marathon.....Bought
it in Florida for cheap bucks.......For what he paid he was happy, but
thought the boat was really cheaply made with not much though put into
the design layout. A couple of things that he pointed out to me
convinced me to stay away from them....and these were simple things
too, i.e. the enginer hatch well had no gutter molded into the
fiberglass deck. Any water that got on the back deck went in the crack
between the deck and hatch cover and right on to the engine...would be
tough in a heavy rain......Other things like the instrument wiring/fuse
panel were exposed....engine compartment a general mess...boat was
under-powered...interior cheap (fell apart quickly).....and the list
went on......This boat was the 25' AFT cabin model about an 85/86 model
I believe......Bottom line, I wasn't very impressed with MArathon and
didn't get to the point of understanding their hull structure, etc. The
"finishing detail" really turned me off......
