775.1 | I tried one on my BAJA - didn't fit.. | STAR::BOIKO | Heaven..No,it's Iowa/Field Of Dreams | Wed Dec 12 1990 16:37 | 9 |
| Yes Wayne, I bought a K&N airfilter/flame arrestor for my Baja
Sunsport for about $110. The only problem was that when I tried to
close the engine hatch/sun deck it didn't fit. I tried to get a lower
profile K&N, but they didn't have a model (at that time) which would
fit.
Yes, K&N airfilter/flame arrestors are Coast Guard approved.

775.2 | Worth the effort and $$$..Don't know | PNO::WOYAK | | Wed Dec 12 1990 17:50 | 6 |
| I installed a couple of K & N's on my rig quite a while back . (twin
502's) I have had no problems. It sounds like the units are breathing
easier and I have noticed a slight increase in response. I could not
tell if it helped in GPH etc..The results could be significantly better
in a smaller rig.

775.3 | Works on a motorcycle !! | POCUS::CULLEN | | Mon Dec 17 1990 16:19 | 8 |
| I installed one on my motorcycle, yielded approximately a 15% increase
in HP.
I have not installed them (twins) in the boat because I'm concerned about
clearance between the flame arrestors and the engine hatch cover. I'd
like to know how you make out.

775.4 | prop/bearings... | HYEND::J_BORZUMATO | | Tue Dec 18 1990 09:44 | 28 |
| Carl, I'm not an expert here.
But looking at your numbers: Low side 525 High side 690.
My marina gets $44 an hour.
First off you can't always tell by looking at the props if they
are balanced. --its like looking at a zinc thats been in the water
for awhile. while it may look OK, it will not weigh the same.
The same goes for props.
Besides all of this, they should be checked for balance at the least.
I had mine pulled and sent up to H&H in Boston.
As for pulling them and reinstalling them:
I'd guess 1-1.5 hrs. @ $44. and hour: $44-66
Prop work is too dependent on what they need.
As for the cutlass work, see what the parts cost you, deduct it from
their estimate, divide the balance by their labor rate and see
what "hours" they are charging you. If you think its high
"HAGGLE LIKE HELL"
If you don't want them to do it will YOU???
