758.1 | I love them... | AIMHI::SJOHNSON | | Thu Sep 20 1990 10:20 | 14 |
| Boy, I just love the Century Boats. They include so many nice extras
that other boats don't. I wished that I could have talked my husband
into one of these!
We looked at a used one last year up at Channel Marine (or was it the
marina next door?) and it really was nice!!! It also really seemed to
hold it's resale value.
I have been told that these are very quality boats - if this means
anything! I hope you get more replies as I'm curious to see what they
will be.
Good luck!

| thanks for the reply. well, i did decide to purchase the century
and will take delivery one week from this friday. I did get if from
the same place that i believe you saw them at, channel marine. you
are right about the nice extras, and judging from the price of the
used ones vs the new ones they do seem to hold a nice resale value.
what did you end up getting instead of a century???
thanks

758.3 | Congratulations! | AIMHI::SJOHNSON | | Thu Sep 20 1990 14:57 | 20 |
| We bought the 235 BAJA DVX from Owens in Manchester. It had a lot of
extras compared to the Wellcrafts & Rinker that we looked at. We
traded in our 20' Checkmate for the BAJA and we got to order all the
colors & options that we wanted for a good price. BAJA is being taken
away from Owens because they don't like the way they sell their line
(they sell large quantity but have a terrible rep for service). We've
never had a problem w/ them - so far... Any problems we have had have
been taken care of. We really like the boat.
The Century's are higher priced (I think) than the BAJA's or we would
have looked at them more seriously. We ended up getting a lot of boat
for the $$$ as the 235 is really 25' 3" long w/ the fiberglass swim
platform. We really like it so far!
Good luck w/ your new purchase & congratulations!
Will you be keeping it on Winni?

| It certainly sounds like you got alot of boat for the dollar. I
know i started looking over 6 weeks ago and couldn't believe the
number of boats, types, manufacturers, etc there were. After the
second week, they all started looking the same.
Yes, i'll be keeping the boat on the lake and i'll be docking it
in gilford.
The only thing i've got to do within the next month or so is to
locate some kind of trailer to pull it out of the water. Where
channel always kept this boat for the weekends and winter time,
there was never a need for a soon to be previous owner to have a
trailer. But where i live, i have room to store the boat so dont
see much sense in giving channel for the winter. You dont by any
chance know of anyone getting rid of a trailer like the one in
3.805 would you?
where do you folks keep your boat on the lake?
do you store it for the winter yourselves or do you keep it at a
marina?
thanks for the dialog

| Sorry it's taken me so long to get back to you...
We haul our boat currently as we like to have a variety of waters.
We will probably be keeping it on Winni in the next year or so as the
hauling is getting old - fast! We have done some nice trips though -
ei: Penobscott Bay, Bar Harbor, Lake Champlain, The Cape, Martha's
Vineyard & Sebago. We've had a great summer!!!
We did look at an 88 Century that was about 22 or 23' long at Channel
Marine (my husband reminded me) - it was very nice but they were asking
about $22k for it without a trailer. At that time we were looking used
and that was more than what we were willing to pay for a used boat!
It was a beauty though. It also didnt' come w/ a trailer!
Sorry - I don't know where to get just a trailer unless you try a
Classified Ads for a used one or buy a new one & pay a lot more for it!
Good luck & have fun,
Sonia

758.6 | Inputs on Century and Tempest Please | OTOOA::LEBEN | | Wed Jul 12 1995 14:44 | 15 |
| We're back at it again, folks. Last night my son and I went to look at
a 27' Fjiord, but the configuration was way too strange for us! They
even hid the galley under the captain's chair. Anyways, we toured down
to Portland, on the Big Rideau Lake system and came accross a couple of
nice looking boats, a 25' Century Mirada and a 25' Tempest with an aft
cabin. As before with the Egg Harbor, I've never heard of these
manufacturers. Anyone have any input, good or bad? Sorry to keep
bugging everyone, but if there was such a thing as a Lemon-aid guide to
boats, I could do this on my own. Appreciate your replies.
Regards,
Rick
