I have an 85 Merc 18 HP that is set up for tiller drive and I have it in a boat that has a steering wheel and cables for forward drive. I would like to know if anyone has a kit that would allow me to do the conversion or any suggestions that I may need. Anyone have an old bunch of parts that could do the job? It's one of these deals where I got the boat cheap from someone who moved and when he bought the motor, he didn't get the hookups for the forward steering or throttle. Thanks. Steve

You should be able to order the parts from Merc. through a merc dealer. Shouldn't be a big project to install. Let us know how you make out. Richard | |||||

Check Bliss/E&B, Overton's, Goldberg marine, etc catalogs- they have steering and throttle/shift controls. Also check the dealer for used stuff, although I would tend to go for new cables. I may have a Merc throttle shift(2 lever) assembly in my box of junk- I'll check tonite and let you know On a small engine like that, I would go for the cable/drum type steering.I's also cheaper z |
