653.0. "Plastic Side Curtian" by MAMTS5::WFIGANIAK (YEAH..GET THE RED ONE) Wed Apr 18 1990 09:26

I did go through to look at key words but I didn't find anything on
plastic windows. Here is the problem. My port side curtian has some
sort of brown stain on it. You can feel it when you run your fingers
across it. I tried the McGuires plastic cleaner and polish but it
won't touch it. My boat is kept in a fresh water marina. The boat
sits almost due East so during the Summer months the port side takes
    a beating from the Sun.
Is there anything I can try that won't damage the plastic ?
    Thanks.

Once a plastic window becomes stained and aged it's pretty tough
to restore it to original condition. But before giving up hope
try using non-lemon Pledge. A lot of people swear by the stuff.
I have yet to try it, but will soon.

A friend of mine claims success with liquid, Rally auto polish.
I saw the results and his side curtains looked great.

Disclaimer: I have not personally tried this product on clear
                  vinyl.

The stainless steel bows supporting my canvas top made grey marks
on the clear vinyl side curtains. The Grady White manual says to
use denatured alcohol to clean the clear vinyl. I did and found
it works fine. Follow this with the NON-LEMON Pledge as a previous
noter indicated. The lemon stuff tends to yellow.

Thanks for the input however nothing worked. I even went as far to
try Soft Scrub on a small part and it wouldn't touch this brown yuk.

653.5Help With Bug Spray SpotsUSRCV1::RECUPARORWed Apr 25 1990 11:3216
I'm not sure if this is the right place for this question but I will
try here before starting a new note.

Last summer, on one of those wonderful warm summer nights, I was out on
the lake getting eaten by the bugs. I had a can of Off, (?) or some kind
of bug repelent, and thought if I sprayed it on me and the boat it would
keep the bugs out. Well it didn't work, the bugs still attacked so we
called it an evening. But the real problem was the next day when I saw
what the bug spray had done to my boat!!! It left spots on every piece
of plast it came in contact with. For example the face of the depht
finder, the plastic doors to the cabin and the plastic side curtains.
Does anybody know of a way to get these spots out.

re .5

I vaguely remember this being discussed in the fishing conference a
couple of years ago. Unfortunately I don't remember the "solution" (pun),
but I'm pretty sure there was one.

653.7If you cant fix it,MARINR::DARROWThe wind is music to my earsThu May 03 1990 15:2110
If all else fails and you end up replacing the side curtain, I would
strongly recomend checking with Neil Thurston of Thurston Sails in
Bristol RI. He mad the dodger for our O'Day and it looks great.
Thurston's prices were the best I could find, still not cheap, buy
considerably less than the three other sources I tried.

My manager has a Thurston dodger that was purchased by the previous
owner. Six plus seasons and it looks good.
