| | I would bet there is a big jump in beam between the 26 and 27 footers.
That would account for the difference in price.

Carver builds a good boat for a reasonable price. They have been
around a long time with many happy owners. Buy it with confidence.
    Survey it, of course.

| | Definitely a quality boat.

We have a 38 ft Aft cabin. The craftsmanship is outstanding, as
is the general quality of the construction. They use heavy duty
under gear as well (i.e. prop shafts, props, and struts).

    2 years and counting....

| | Carvers are Fair to Good Boats. I never have owned one but have been
around them a little. A fellow boater and neighbor had a 32' with fly
bridge. He had a few minor problems though, like a shift cable snap
as he was backing into the slip.

      Real quality = Real dollars

| 645.4 | Same parts in different boats | NWD002::SASLOW_ST | STEVE | Tue Apr 17 1990 11:43 | 9 |
| | I think if you looked at the brand of shift cable in the Carver,
it will be the same brand that the "more expensive" boats use. That
is not a good example. Most production boats have common parts because
of the limited number of manufacturers. For example, I have never
seen a pressure water pump that was not a JABSCO in the four boats
I have owned. I know Groco makes one but I have never seen it as
original equipment. I bet most of the control cables out there are
    Teleflex or Morse.

| | I have a friend with a 26 Montego and he is satisfied with the
boat. It has comfortable accomodations, and gives a solid ride
even in bad Winni weather. His only complaint is that the single
screw makes for some "interesting" handling problems in windy and/or
tight conditions. Now thats not a "Carver" problem, but something
    you may want to consider.

| | This past months issue of Trailer Boats has a review of a 25' Montego
(I think). The review is basically positive.
