637.0. "Home made dinghy plans" by USCTR2::HWYDOM () Thu Mar 22 1990 09:10

    The dingy I use to get back and forth to my mooring is ready for
    retirement. Rather than buy a new one, I want to build it. Should be
    a fun project, but I need some plans. While I could (easily) disassemble
    the one I currently have and use it as a guideline for cutting the
    bottom, sides, etc., I would rather buy some plans which would include
    templates. Does anyone have any info on where plans for building an 8
    foot dingy might be available?

    Thanks
    Herb

637.1Check out a copy of Wooden BoatSTAR::KENNEYThu Mar 22 1990 10:316
    Pick up a copy of the "Wooden Boat" magazine. You will find
    advertisements for all kinds of boat plans, and kits. That is the easy
    part deciding what to build will be even harder.

637.3How about a Phil Bolger (Small Boat Journal) dinghyMSCSSE::FRENCHBill French, PKO3-1/22D, 223-3004Tue Apr 10 1990 14:0515
    I have a dinghy which was homemade (by a DECcie and a near-DEccie)
    following plans by Phil Bolger. I think I have the plans at home
    (3 pages if I recall, not full scale). It requies one sheet of 1/4"
    plywood and has an external frame of 1" pine. It has a lot of "sheer"
    (bow and stern of both the bottom and the gunwhales curve up a lot -
    so much that the square bow and transom are out of the water when the
    boat is empty. It can either be rowed or sailed, although I don't have
    the sailing hardwaere. A unique feature is that it has one seat -
    longitudinal - from bow to stern, about 9" wide.

    If this is the type of dinghy you are looking for let me know and
    I can probably find the plans.
