| | I could be wrong, but I believe that a BAJA is a performance boat.
    A BAHA is more of a cruiser, family type boat.

    Yup, Steve had it right in reply 633.1. "Baja" is a performance
    boat. "Baha" is a family cruiser style which actually goes by
    the name of "Baha Cruisers" (which is not to be confused with
    Cruisers Inc...). I believe the two are independent companies
    and have nothing to do with each other.

| 633.3 | what model?? | TUNER::RONEY |  | Mon Mar 19 1990 13:13 | 6 |
| | The BAJA line of boats are three styles. Performance, family and ski
    styles. Do you know what model the BAHA was that you looked at or have
    an interest in? I've been around boats for quite a while and may be
    able to help. I can't place a BAHA!!

    Thanks for the reply, Bob, I'm looking at a 28ft BAHA Express.
    Does that ring a bell?? It has a 10ft beam, lots of teak, aft,
    mid and for cabins. It has twin 190 Mercruisers. I have seen
    this boat described for sale in the Want Ads as well and for
    about 39,000 and spelt BAHA. I would appreciate any info on
    the quality or lack of about this beast. ;-),

    Thanks, Mike

| 633.5 | seems well built... | WEDOIT::JOYCE |  | Wed Mar 21 1990 07:07 | 8 |
| | A friend of mine has a 28ft. Baha, but it is the fishing module.
    Its a nice, well built boat. My only comment would be about the
    engines. If these are the 4 cyl. Mercruisers, I would have someone
    go through them. Merc had problems with water getting into the engine
    and causing the piston wrist pins to seize. They claim it was only
    on a few late model engines.

| 633.6 | its real | HYEND::J_BORZUMATO |  | Wed Mar 21 1990 11:45 | 10 |
| | the mercruiser issue is real, the last issue of Boat US Seaworthy
    and the issue before that has written this up well. I gave the info
    to a friend of mine, who has one of these engines, his dealer confirmed
    that antifreeze was getting into one cylinder, the dealer did
    fix it at his cost.

    If i were looking at this boat, i would prefer a pair o v8's
    seems to me they're gonna be working too hard.

    Mike, I'll ask some friends in the boat business about the 28' BAHA
    Express cruiser.

    As far as the 190 Mercs go, a friend of mine has a Regal 27 Express
    Cruiser with a pair of 190's and that boat has been great to run and no
    problems what so ever with the engines or I/O's. It's a 1987 model.
    Fuel consuption is very reasonable. I don't know if I would go for
    V8's, but I might consider V6's if I was going to order the boat. Less
    weight and still have power and good fuel consuption as well. I may end
    up being a bear to get up on plane with the weight of the V8's vs. the
    V6's. Just a thought!

    Do you know what the weight and beam is on the BAHA 28?

    Bob

| 633.8 | Dealer in Plymouth Ma. | ISLNDS::LANE |  | Wed Mar 21 1990 17:02 | 7 |
| | I believe there is a dealer for Baha in Plymouth if you'd like some
    history, technical info. etc. My casual observation is that they
    were new to market in the 80's and make a middle of the road, basic
    cruising/fishing line of boats.

| 633.9 | Boat test recently | NWD002::SASLOW_ST | STEVE | Wed Mar 21 1990 19:07 | 10 |
| | Within the last two issues there was an evaluation on Baha boats.
    If fact I believe the test boat was a 28. The problem is I get 3
    magazines:

              Power and motoryacht
              Boating
              SEA

    Good luck.

    this I need some pointers. .6, Jim, could u tell me where I could
    find the ma, Boat US Seaworthy?, I would like to read the article
    on the engines. .9, Steve, likewise, where do u frequent to find
    the 3 mags you mentioned. Maybe you know of a good store? Also,
    the beam is a 10 foot 6 in.
