| You could try the Redbank, NJ town hall (not sure which dept.
but you could ask around). Every year they have the Red Bank Regatta
(sp?) and they have a class just for the Jersey Speed Skiffs. You
may be able to find out who runs the races which may point you in
the right direction. If you are in no hurry you may want to go down
in the summer when they have the races. You can talk to the drivers
and pit crew and they may know someone that has one for sale or that
can point you in the right direction.
Another thing you may be able to do is get someone to check
the local classifieds down in NJ. I have seen some for sale in the
area when I was down there (quite a while ago). There are a few
fishermen in the fishing notes file that I know of that occasionally
fish that area of NJ. If you put this question in there (if you
haven't already) someone might be able to help you locate one.

BTW - Although they move pretty good they were little match for
the hydroplanes (different class). Also, these things spend more
time in the air then in the water when you get a little chop. Although
they look like a lot of fun, they also look like they'd be easy to
flip/swamp (as some did during the races).

Bob,
The Jersey Speed Skiffs are still being made down
in New Jersey out of fiberglass .. There were a couple of guys that used to
build and race Jersey Speed Skiffs. One was named Herbie Moore and
other was named Bud Bender both were from either Highlands N.J or Atlantic
Highlands N.J.
They built some of the fastest JS on the APBA circuit.
If you call the APBA in St Clair Shore MI,, they should be able
to tell you the names of people still building them,,ask for the Inboard
Racing Div.
The "JS's" ran with a 283 cu in Chev engine,,V-Drive,,
and would run over 75 mph... I haven't kept up with them in a few years,,
but they are still building them and race them..
I lived in Oceanprt New Jersey for most of my life,, and knew many
racers of JS and Flat-bottoms..I've driven and rode in few JSs...
Wild ride to say the least....
I raced Offshore Power Boats for about 11 years...
A great time, lots of fun,,,, but a ton of money......
Good Luck....
Keep us posted on how you make out...
Jim
