That's a schematic of Rockport Harbor. Pier #1 is for re-fueling only, though I
have seen people tie on the back side (land side) for short periods.
Pier #2 is where I have seen people tie up for extended periods. There is no
fee, but this is the pier where the famous "Motif #1" is, hence the fisherman
do use it and may be upset if they are blocked.
The Yacht club is private, and I don't know if they would let you rent a slip. I
would suggest you call the Rockport Chamber of Commerce or call the Rockport
Harbormaster.

451.2 | Ramps in the Gloucester/Rockport area ? | USCTR1::GOLFN::PeterNeil | | Wed Jun 07 1995 15:34 | 22 |

Hi,
I tried to find a note about ramps in the Gloucester area but there doesn't seem to be
one. So, ...
Anyway, I currently keep my boat (22ft Chris Craft) on the trailer in a marina on the
Merrimack in Newburport. I'd like to get the boat down to Gloucester/Rockport
occasionally for some fishing and diving and I'm looking for pointers to any nice ramps
within a short ride to the open ocean.
I've been told that there is a nice State/Public ramp on the Annisquam river next to the
Gloucester High School. Could anyone fill me in this ramp and give me an idea what it's
like taking the Annisquam either direction (North to Rockport and South to Gloucester
Harbor) ?
Are there any other ramps that could take my size boat and that also has parking available in
this general area ?
Thanks for any help,
Peter.

451.3 | Why not cruise it over | PENUTS::GORDON | | Thu Jun 08 1995 12:50 | 11 |

Why not just cruise it over to Gloucester/Rockport/Annisquam area. Halibut point is
just a few miles from the mouth of the merrimack and takes about 1/2 hr to get there.
It would take less time to go by boat than trailer it over.
Or you could troll down Plum island and pick up a few blues/stripers on the way over.
Halibut point has been good blue fishing the past couple years.

>just a few miles from the mouth of the merrimack and takes about 1/2 hr to get
I will probably do that sometimes. But, according to my chart it's about 10nm from
the mouth of the Merrimack to the tip of Halibut Pt. On some (most?) days with
anything over 2-3ft waves that seems like a long/wet/bumpy ride.
>It would take less time to go by boat than trailer it over.
True, but there are some spots for diving I'd like to try on the South side of Cape Ann and
navigating (for a newbie) around the point doesn't seem like something I want to try
right away.
>Or you could troll down Plum island and pick up a few blues/stripers on the way
I will do that but I'd still prefer to be close to home and/or the trailer ....
>Halibut point has been good blue fishing the past couple years.
I've heard that also. Can't wait to get over there and check it out.
Thanks for the reply.
Peter.

451.5 | that looks like a nice ramp | IMOKAY::cummings | Paul T. Cummings LTN2 | Fri Jun 09 1995 13:25 | 10 |

I've boated by that ramp many times. It looks like a fine deep wide
ramp but I couldn't comment on the parking. It is very near the
entrance to Gloucester Harbor, right near the draw bridge. Only
possible concerns are to keep an eye out for the tide and current.
You'd like to launch and recover at high tide if possible :-). The
current is moderate - more of a concern for recovery than launch.
There seem to be big tidal variations there and I couln't say what the
end of the ramp looks like at low tide. Summary, it looks like a nice
ramp from the water side.
