| Hi Rick,
I know that having a "club" or "association" gives you a lot more
clout when dealing with the "powers that be". I also know that
the N.H. marine patrol won't issue any permits for slalom courses,
parasails and ski-shows (so-called "exhibition and circus" permits)
in the name of an individual. You must be a "club or association".
(but nothing says anything about the number of member(s) in your
club or association) Also, when you have a permit for an exibition,
you are exempted from most (if not all) N.H. rules and regulations.
i.e.; allowed more than two skiers behind boat, less than one observer
per skier, not required to wear PFDs, in fact, the boat doesn't
even have to be registered in N.H. (Again, these exemptions are
ONLY during the date and time of the tournament or exibition as
stated on the permit.) As far as getting a permit for a slalom course,
the state will send out an inspector to look at the proposed site
before any permits are issued.

| RE: .-1 -< club = obligation to do ski-shows ;^) >-
Hey Doug, I wouldn't say that...I'm not a member of a ski club (opur
lake doesn't have an official ski club) and we did a ski show at your
lake! Ya just gotta have an act (or two or three or...) and some time
to put it together. We love it, it's fun, and everyone seems to enjoy
it.
About forming a club, yes there are advantages (like Doug said) but the
organization (schedules, dues, weekly "teach the kids to ski" events,
etc.) takes up a good amount of time, especially since our season is
short and you try to squeeze as many events as possible into this short
season. Examples of what our lake association sponsors each year:
1) Novice ski tournament (not this year though)
2) Jet ski/wave runner slalom competition (just this past weekend)
3) Annual ski show (July 30th this year)
4) Float boat parade (entries decorate their boats and prizes are
awarded for prettiest, ugliest, most original, etc.)
5) Annual July 4th fireworks display
6) Canoe race
7) Annual dinner/dance (usually at the end of Sept.)
Time is the issue in N.E. There's so many things to do between
Memorial Day and Labor Day.
...Roger...
