419.0. "Rhode Island/Cape Slip suggestions" by USEM::SPENCE () Mon Jun 26 1989 17:12

Anyone know of some reasonable slips in Rhode Island.
I'm in the process of buying a 25' Century Marada. Used
of course. However I really haven't decided where I want
to keep it. The cape is my second choice, however I hate
the weekend traffic around the bridge. The only reason I
mentioned Rhode Island is a friend of mine owns a 38'
Erikenson sailboat at the old navy yard. However they've
go condo now and are priced crazy. Any suggestions??

419.1I think its call Dartmouth Yacht Club in D. R.I.LLOYDJ::OSTIGUYOh SugarTue Jun 27 1989 09:346
Two neighbors of mine have slips in a Dartmouth Yacht
Club. More than that I do not know but since that is
a 2 hour drive from where they live the price must be
    right.

    Good luck, Lloyd

I'm not sure of your definition of "reasonable", but I know that
prices seem to vary quite a bit. The esat side of the bay seems
to be cheaper than the west side.

    On the west side:

        Masthead Marina, $77/foot 401-884-1810

        Dickerson's, $ 55/foot ( not the nicest facilities, but
                                     well protected )

I have rented slips at both marinas so contact me if you want
        more info.

I have been told that slips on the east side can be had for
$ 55/foot. Obviously, that's not Bend Boat Basin or Newport.

My observation is there are lots of empty slips this year.

Could someone please help me in finding some info
on the prices, availability and location of slips in the
Rhode Island area. We are looking for a reasonably priced
Marina (if there is such a thing). My husband and I are
looking to buy a boat within the next month and we need
some names of marinas in the Rhode Island or southern Mass
area. The boat we are buying is in the 20' to 25' range if
that makes any difference. Thanks for your help!!

I would suggest you pick up a copy of:

The Boston Globe, Offshore magazine, and finally Soundings.

Its a buyers market in all respects of boating, they are many
    vacancies in N.E. Marinas.

I would also consider calling the Chamber of Commerce
in Rhode Island, i'll bet they can supply you a list
    of Marinas.

When you say "reasonable" its a relative question,
its in relationship to what other marinas in the area
    are charging.

Plus, you should drive down there to look around. A magazine ad might
tempt you, only to find out there's 12" of water just two hours off high
tide -- between your slip and the bay.

Look around Tiverton, Portsmouth, and Middletown RI. There's a bunch of
marinas within sight of the Rt. 24 Sakonnet River Bridge.
