Hello All or Ahoy Mate's The Idea to get out camping on an Island came up yesterday and I was thinking that it would be a great way to do some diving for lobsta in the morning and another dive at night (Not for lobsta of course, wanna buy an Isuzu?) Does anyone know if you can camp on any Islands off of the Salem Harbor Area? Big Misery? Little Misery? ect. ect.?? Mr. Thackery- If your going to be in the area with your boat this weekend, maybe you can join us for a dive? I see your looking for a place to moor for the fourth. If we find a safe cove? There you go! Has anyone done any Island Camping? ie: set up tents? Walt "Rainbow Chaser"

The Maine Island Trail Assoc was formed last year to create/maintain a trail of island campsites along the Maine coast. At present several hundred islands are in the system. Membership, for about $25, gets you a notebook with all the island locations, and continuing info on the project. My membership card does not have a full address, but I think just writing to MITA, Rockland ME. will work. Note most- if not all- the sites are only suitable for beachable boats- canoes and sea kayaks most appropriately. Very unlikely to have a suitable cove or mooring area for motor boats. Also the group is very 'back to nature' oriented. I believe overnight camping on Misery is prohibited. I think a couple of the Boston Harbor Islands do allow camping, but I dont have a current list. |
