I was up there on Saturday for the "Hog Parade" at the Wiers. I don't
know anything explicit, but I've never seen a greater Marine Police
presence on the lake, and they seemed to be taking a good look at
everything.. heavy binocular use and all that...

It would'nt suprise me if they did "clean house" alittle since the
lake was pretty quiet and they didnt have a whole lot else to do.

I think the congestion trying to get a dock at the Wiers late saturday
afternoon was worse than on the Blvd, but once tied up it was
    worth the hassle.

410.2The mooring situation is getting resolvedMLCSSE::FRENCHBill French, PK03-1/22D, 223-3004Mon Jun 19 1989 17:2523
There was a piece in the paper last week. A number of boats (around
a dozen) which were on "illegal moorings" were removed along with
the moorings. Those boats which were removed were on moorings which
had not been approved and ALSO for which no mooring application
    had submitted.

Actually, the mooring situation is being squared away. It is taking
a lot of time to get applications through, especailly for the large
mooring fields, such as at the marina where I keep my boat, but
it looks like it will all work out, to the satisfaction of most
parties involved (except those who are looking for something for
nothing). My marina has had 20 moorings for decades. It looks like
they may be granted as many as 40, although they only originally
applied for 20. It has taken the marina a lot of time and money
to comply with all of the state requirements, but approval looks
near, including having 25% of all moorings in a filed reserved for
transient boaters - an unheard of thing on the lake before. Since
one cannot anchor overnight on the lake, the transient moorings
will allow some of us to spend overnights at somewhere other than
    our own marinas.

410.3Checking #'s?CGVAX2::JOHNSON_STue Jun 20 1989 11:219
I saw many boaters pulled over on the lake on Saturday. It looked
like they were checking for #'s. They were at the canal opening
at Paugus Bay and all around the Wiers area as well as every other
Bay that we went into. I've never seen so many Police on the water.

As for the Wiers. We were able to get parking on the Piers at about
11:30 without a problem- but looked very busy around 2:30. Very
entertaining though. I would have loved to have seen it Sat night.

re .2

State law is unclear on whether it is legal to stay overnight on a mooring. A
test court case was heard over the winter; but when I last checked (a couple
weeks ago) a ruling had not yet been rendered. The State's position was that
overnighting on moorings is illegal. Depending on the conclusion, transient
moorings may provide a place for vacationers to park their boat, but
overnighting will be courtesy of a relative in the area or the local hotel
industry. Of course marinas with docks and moorings should be able to shuffle
boats between docks and moorings creating dock space for visitors that really
wanted to overnight on their boats.
