| This is sort of the topic... houseboats. Does anybody know why
houseboats (a boat with sleeping or toilet facilites aboard) are not
allowed on Squam Lake, N.H.? It seems to me that discouraging toilet
facilities (self contained not overboard discharge) would ENCOURAGE
elimination into the Lake. How is a boat with a toilet and someone
sleeping aboard more of an environmental problem than, say, a summer
cottage on the shores of the Lake?
If you ask me I think the no houseboats law is something the lake shore
landowners dreamed up to keep the 'public' from having direct overnight
water access as the land owners do. I believe its not so much an
environmental issue as a territory issue. If the no houseboats law is
environmentaly sound, then I submit that private cottages on the lake
should be discourage too... and, perhaps eliminated as the houseboats
have been.
