392.0. "Raft-up in Narragansett Bay??" by CURIE::THACKERAY (Ray Thackeray MR03 DTN 297-5622) Thu Jun 01 1989 14:33

    How many people have a boat on Narragansett Bay? I wonder if the
    idea of a raft-up would fly? Perhaps Barrington beach, where flounder
    can always (nearly) be found and is sheltered enough for a lot of
    weather abuse!

    Or perhaps out near Point Judith, or in the breakwater? I'm not
    fussy. The idea of rafting up with a bunch of folks, having barbeques,
    skiing, SCUBA, etc. sounds like great fun and much better than the
    usual cruising around with 4-6 people on board......and Walt can
    get at some decent lobster, assuming we have a R.I. licenced diver
    there!

    And those folks up north in Mass should be encouraged to take the
    cruise through the canal and get to a really nice place. I bet us
    folks in the Bay can find them a place to moor for the week, etc.

    And for you small boaters, it's easy enough to trailer and launch
    almost anywhere in the Bay. If you haven't tried it, you'd love
    it. And those who would just like to man the galley and sun it up,
    one thing you might like to consider: it's almost always warmer
    in Rhode Island than north of Cape Cod. For example, sea temperature
    in the bay yesterday was 64 F. I know, I was diving in it.

    So how about a raft-up, say, Saturday 10th June, or Sunday 11th?

    Tally-ho,

392.1BOATING ON THE BAYNRPUR::LGRABLICKFri Jun 02 1989 10:2512
    My husband, Tom, and I have been boating on the bay for the past
    seven years and love it. We just bought a new boat and should get
    possession of it by next weekend. We'll be keeping it in a slip
    in Bullock's Cove, Riverside. It's a Baja 250 Force, called the
    "Enforcer", and it's blue, gray, and maroon. We'll be on the bay
    every weekend
    and vacations until the end of the boating season, and we love
    raft-ups. What kind of boat do you have and what's its name? If
    we see you out there, we'll call you, and please call us if you
    see us!

    Hi,

    My boat is a 23' Bayliner Sunbridge called "Danielle", Off-white
    with red stripe around. The red canvas top is usually up

    I'm also on the Bay every weekend and holiday (have to get the most
    out of a short season!), monitoring channel 16 when operating.

    The boat is out of Warren (opposite Barrington Yacht club, the nearest
    I get to opulence).

    Call me when you're out!

    Cheers,

    Ray

    My husband and I keep our boat, a 20' Stingray blue and white, in a
    slip in Warwick Cove. The name of the boat is Birgit. We are down
    there every weekend.

    I just got a mail from two other raft-up enthusiasts. Looks like we
    stand a chance of getting at least 4-5 boats together, so how's
    about this for a starter to see if we can come to agreement.....

    	Saturday 10th June
    	Inside Point Judith Harbour of Refuge (breakwater)
    	Meet on channel 70
    	Foul weather date: Sunday 11th June
    	All types of boats, all comers
    	I'll cross-post this in the Sailing Notesfile

    Tally-ho!

    So far, I have had mail/phone calls/Notes responses from 5 people.
    Are there any others who will be joining the Point Judith Raft-up??

    Cheers!

392.6Rain date?CURIE::THACKERAYRay Thackeray MR03 DTN 297-5622Thu Jun 08 1989 18:4510
    I just heard that the foul-weather date might come into effect,
    as the forecast was not good for Saturday. I will be listening to
    my radio for the marine forecast on Friday and will post a reply
    in this note indicating most likely date.

    The rain date, of course, is Sunday 11th.

    Cheers,

392.7Can we try again?FDCV06::DARROWEach moment is a new reality!Tue Jun 13 1989 14:3917
Ray,

We were up in Maine this past weekend and I understand that the First Annual
Point Judith DEC Raft-Up got weathered out.

How about the Saturday and/or the Sunday, July 1/2. I'm not sure we are up to
an over night just yet in our new 17 footer. BUT,I am sure that I would make
it down for at least part of it. I only need reasonable proximity to a ramp.
That is why the Point Judith inlet or whatever it is called sounded so good.
There are two workable ramps with moderate parking at the other end of Point
Judith Pond. (known locally as the Salt Pond, I understand)

    Hi Fred,

    Sounds great. I'll open a new note about a raft-up over the 4th
    July weekend and write-lock this one.

    Cheers folks!
