| Sound good Bruce.
Last year was a good time. I'll mention it to Cathy and see if she
wants to do it.
Saterday would be good, but Monday would be better. A quick morning
Dive would get some bugs. I'll bring the rubber raft. Does anyone have
a tube or kneebord ?? Do a little Tubing behind the raft.
Also if we raft up on the upper portion of the beach we can bring a
grill for a cook out. Anyone have a Grill????

| It's a bit of a cruise from Narragansett Bay, but I'm game for
anything. I have a two-person inflateable torpedo which is a blast
to see being towed....
I'll bring my diving gear, too, plus a rubber raft!

I could be real tempted to join you folks & be able to put some
faces behind the names; but, I can't seem to locate where you
intend to meet on my chart???
Could you give some landmarks?
I have a small grill.
Hope to see ya,

| Hello all.
After speaking with Bruce this morning I guess next Sat. is the day.
Wingershiek Beach is located on the north end of the Annisquam River.
in Glouster Ma. To get there from the north by water plot a 120 deg
course from the merrimack river. to get there from the south by water
just aim for Glouster harbor and go up the annisquam to the other end.
To get there by landtake Rt 128 North to the first Glouster
(Wingershiek) beach exit.
Bugs= Lobsta, Lou.
Note. Be carful comeing accros the east sandbar at low tide, ie: go
around the bouy and don't run over the swimmers on the beach.
I think 10:00 would be a good time to meet? I have a coleman gas grill
to use on the beach and if we can get a few bugs or mussels ?? Who
Knows?

| I love New Englanders -
They give everything a name that doesn't appear on maps or charts.
I get the impression you folks are meeting on the beach on the
west side of the river just inside comming from the North (?).
I won't be able to get there till about 2/2:30 on Sat.
(it's a pain when your kids [read crew] work)
How late do you folks stay?
Can you stay there overnight? (or should I go to Essex after)
Anyone else staying over?
(also have a small gas stove if required)

380.6 | Where is everyone??? | LEVERS::SWEET | Capt. Codfish...GW Fishing Team | Tue May 23 1989 11:21 | 12 |
| Hey where is everybody??? I figured to have at least 10 boats signed
up here by now! I picked the location so that even some of the
lake boats could attend. The run up the anasquam is beatiful and
compeletly protected there is even skiable water near by in
ipswitch bay (did I hit a key point with any of you??).
Sat is looking like the best day so far. My boat has a 2 burner
alcohol stove we can cook on and plenty of cooler space. It looks
like we would be up there around 1030. Look for a 25 foot Grady
with a Fish shaped wind sock flying from an outriger.

| Bruce,
The raft up sounds great. Unfortunately I'm having a hard time
getting my sh*% together this season. My boat is sitting idle and all
my weekends are booked with non boating stuff ... :^(
I'm even having a hard time keeping current with this notes file.
Maybe you all will consider another one at the end of the season
if this one is successfull. Under the right conditions I could shoot
over to Cape Ann in a few hours ... and a ton of fuel. :^)
I suppose I could also trailer down otherwise.
Maybe I could bring the Tuna steaks. :^)
Hope ya have a ball.

| I discussed the raft-up with my wife, she discussed an I listened.
Saterday is totally out of the question as its my wedding anniversary
and boat stuff is not on the agenda.
If your thinking of Monday it would work out much better, I may
even be able to show up?
Rick. The skiable water is Salt. It's a very shallow 10-15 ft area
in Ipswitch bay where lot's of skiers and windsurfers go. I was
thinking of tubing out there and Ray said he would bring a rubber
bannana to pull behind my 12ft dingy with a 15 hp. on it. The way
water temp in going I would not be suprized if it was almost 70
in the Bay. Last Sunday it was 56 out of Danvers the week before
it was 48. Getting hot quick this year? Ray said it was over 60
down in Narragansett.
Ok Lou. You ragged on me enough. Wingershiek is NOT 120 deg out
of Newburyport, Try closer to 180 or so.
Also you can anchor out around Long Warf ( not on the charts) in
the backwater for the night if you like.

The Memorial Weekend Raft-up sounds like a great idea !!! I look
forward to meeting some of the faces behind the notes...I already know Lou
(Phanta Sea) and Walt (Rainbow Chaser - the handheld is working fine thanks).
I can't guarantee the time but I'll try to be there before Noon.
I have a 27' SunRunner (Red on Grey) with red canvas so keep a sharp
eye out. I'm familiar with the north entrance of the Annisquam but I've never
heard of Wingershiek? From Walt's directions I assume it's the beach area just
inside of the northern entrance on the right hand side?
I won't be able to join in on the bug hunt this time - I haven't sent
in my license yet (I'll do it tonight...), next time. I'll bring along the
raft and plenty of cold ones (Cold ones are permitted aren't they?) Is there
any use for my portable generator? I might bring it along incase I decide to
spend the night there or at Essex, my wife hates cold showers. I know of
several others that are planning the weekend on Essex...Depending on the
weather - I'm planning to spend the night somewhere - kids, wife and all....

I didn't want to say anything but Lou is correct - 120 deg out of
the Merrimack gets you out around Halibut Point!!!

| Yes the water is salty....The ramp is right behind gloucester high
school, easy access from 128 and rt 127 in gloucester. It is aspault
and wide enough for 2 boats. Plenty of parking the only thing is
that on weekends they charge a stiff parking fee (About $8). From
the ramp head north up the river at no wake speeds (takes about
25 minutes) and wingershiek is the beach at the end on the left.
You will see many boats rafted up.
We can take a head (boat) count on about thursday and see what the
weather is going to be like. If its a go we can make more formal
plans friday with directions etc.

| I'm going to be there (if nothing goes wrong :-(), together with
the big yellow banana to tow behing Walt's inflateable. I'll cruise
out of Narragansett Bay on Saturday morning (late, unfortunately,
'coz I have to wait for the shop to open with my new, low-pitch
prop........).
Walt, I'll bring my diving gear plus a couple of tanks, and let's
not forget to go for some of those millions of mussels we saw on
Saturday.
Narragansett Bay, this weekend, was 66 degrees surface temp. Not
bad, eh?
Looks like overnight camping for me until Monday (I can use a nice long
weekend on the water) so if anyone's out on Saturday evening and
Sunday, I'll be there!

| Bruce, Walt, Everyone,
I'd likeot raft up with you all this weekend but I've got other
plans. Sounds like fun!
To get to the boat Launching ramp onthe Anisquam River do the
following. Take Rt 128N to you get to The Glouster Rotory. Get
off the first rotory exit. Take that Street @ 200 yds until you
see a small corner store on your left. TURN RIGHT. Go over a small
RR track Bridge. Keep going straight down a small hill and up another.
As you go ower the top of the second hill slow down to TURN RIGHT.
This will tak eyou to the Glouster High School. The Ramp is behind
it. Keep to the right of the big building and go between the two
buildings. Past tennis courts turn left to ramp. Launch Fee is
$10.
I hope that this helps. Have fun.

I'm going to try and make the next one, I know that area
very well and its fun city. Lots to do, we usually dive
for mussels or fish for blues. I've skied the inlets at
high tide.
We've never caught any "bugs", that would make for some
fine barbecuing. The blues are ready to come in soon, and
you can always catch flounder to the right of the draw bridge
(heading towards breakwater) at the other end of the Annisquam.
I prefer the Annisquam during the week, it sort of resembles
128 on weekends. But if there's going to another raft-up
during weekend, and somebody needs a boat to throw their
"bugs" in, I'll be there with my Whaler. :>) Love those BUGS!

Here's some info about the launch at Gloucester High.
If you're launching at low tide, put your boat in on the
leftmost side of the ramp. On the right side of the launch,
the pavement ends and there's a dropoff of about 2 1/2 feet.
Its not a gradual drop, it drops straight down. Some guy
demolished his trailer when he launched his boat on the wrong
side of the ramp.
