The following was posted in the RV notesfile.  As it is slightly political
in nature, I will understand if the moderator removes it.
The gas tax hike does affect consumers.  The tax was meant to provide for
the highway system.  This hike is intended for reducing the deficit.
While an admirable goal, it could be accomplished in a fairer way.
The recreation industry in whole, boaters, campers, etc will pay through
the nose, not to mention the poor guy that has to drive to work.

    Well, an official bill has been introduced into the house, its H.R.1023
    introduced by Beilenson, a democrat from California.
    H.R. 1023 proposes adding 10 cents a gallon to the tax for 5 years
    for a total *added* of 50 cents!
    
    Since I originally posed .0, I not only wrote to the president but
    to N.H.;s two senators and congressman.  I received a reply from
    the senators and congressman indicating they supported my position.
    I never did hear from George.
    
    We need more writing going on.  I URGE each of you to write you
    leaders.  To make this task easier, I WILL FORWARD YOUR LETTERS
    EN MASS TO THE CONGRESS.  Please mail them to me, I will do the
    rest.
    Mention that you oppose H.R.1023 and oppose increases to the gas tax.
    
    Do it right now before you read the next note so you don't forget.
    At the min., take out a sheet of paper and write " I oppose H.R.1023
    and any bill that would raise the gas tax."  Sign it, and list
    your name and address.  Mail to Ed Badger, MKO1-2B6.  I will
    photocopy and send to all the reps I can find, including George
    again.  Please do this if you are opposed.  It will cost you nothing.
    If the bill gets through, you will be paying through the nose.
    Please mail before May 15th.
