I purchased a 1985 26' Sea Sprite, used it for one season and was lucky not
to take a bath getting rid of it. I personally think the boat is very poor
quality (at least the 26' version). Some of the problems included MANY
topside water leaks, poor workmanship like missing fasterners, screws, loose
clamps etc. Also after just a few weeks of use I had many "Spider Cracks"
in the fiberglass. The quality of the materials that went into the that
particular boat was marginal at best. Also to compound the problem I had
many problems with the dealer "Whitecap Marine" in getting the boat fixed.
I had to deal with the manufacture directly (many nastsy letters and phone
calls) before I could get anything fixed. Which I never really did...Perhaps
things could have been different with another dealer. I'm not sure but I
heard that Sea Sprite yanked Whitecap's dealership?
Overall - I would seriously consider not taking the gift of a "Sea Sprite"
boat. But this is just one very unhappy customer's opinion....I sure there
are those out there that may disagree and are happy with their boats...
Good luck if you decide to buy it !!!

338.2 | GOOD LUCK WITH MY SEA SPRITE | WMOIS::HENRICKSON | | Sun Apr 16 1989 22:03 | 6 |
| I HAVE A 1979 15' SEA SPRITE THAT HAS BEEN GREAT. I BOUGHT IT USED
AND HAVE LOGGED OVER 100 SKIING AND FISHING HOURS A SEASON FOR SIX
YEARS. THE GELCOAT HAS HELD-UP EXTREMELY WELL AND I HAVE HAD NO
MAJOR PROBLEMS WITH ANY OF THE GLASS OR WORKMANSHIP (EXCLUDING WEAR
AND TEAR). I CAN'T COMMENT ON THE LARGER BOATS THEY MAKE... DON'T
KNOW ANYONE WITH ONE.

I have never heard of the "Sea Sprint" but there is a
boat listed in note #381 in your price range and is not
underpower like the Sea Sprint.

I *might* have an opportunity on purchasing a circa 1975 17' Sea
Sprint. This boat appears to be in MINT shape with very few hours.
It has a 85hp Mercury outboard, includes a trailer and has been under
cover for years. The owner took it out once within the last 3 years
and is considering a sale.
What's something like this worth?
thanks
