320.0. "Ski Lessons in New England" by IAMOK::KOSKI (I'd rather be in Winter Haven) Mon Mar 27 1989 16:09

    Waterski lesson info:

I called WaterSki Plus in Spencer (MA) (508)885-3335. They are just
getting ready to open up later this week. I was told that lesson
usually begin in June, but there are sometimes exceptions (emergency
    ski lessons).

Lessons are $50.00/hour for 1-3 people. You can take individual
1/2 hour lessons but they do not recommend this, as it can get quite
tiring, especially for beginners. With 2 people you can take turns,
10 minutes in, 20 min to rest.

They are going to send me a calendar with the days that lessons
will be, there are weekend lessons.

    I'm there...

See my earlier recommendations of this place....

I'd guess it warms up quite early there, a fairly small body
of water, quite well sheltered, not very deep. I don't know what feeds
it - probably not much THIS year and I don't remember which direction the
open side is.

They also teach "tricking" at WaterSki Plus. Their son, who is
in March's issue of WaterSki mag., is a 3-event competitor. He
teaches jumping, tricking and advanced slalomn.

I plan on using these people quite a bit this summer....maybe
a bunch of us can get together for group lessons.

Group lessons are a great idea! I bet we could get a decent
size group together and I could even bring the Nautique so we could
ski in between lessons if the group was big enough to have an in
between.... I already know I can launch the boat on their lake....

I know there is a place in NH that offers waterski lessons, but
I can't think of the name or location. Any ideas. It's that time
of year to sign up for my annual lesson...

    thanks,

I've changed the title of this topic from "Ski Lessons in Mass." to
Ski Lessons in New England". It probably makes more sense to combine
the New England states than have a topic for each state. Any questions
or discussions regarding ski lessons in the N.E. area should be placed
    here.

    Thanks for the suggestion Gail!

Hi Anne. I don't have first hand (or is it "feet"? :-)) experience with lessons
from Water Skis Plus, but I hear Ed is a very good instructor. Both Ed and
April (Ed's wife) are very nice people, as I've done business several times at
their shop. They usually sponsor Zenon Bilas (world class barefooter) for a
couple of weeks (might be right now) during the summer. If you're into some
body-bashing, you might check it out.

320.83 1/2 stars for Water Skis PlusCOLBIN::WHITMANThu Jul 26 1990 17:1223
I got some first hand experience at Water Skis Plus skiing school!!

I thought they did a great job. This was beginner lessons (i.e. how do I
get my behind out of the water on two skis). They started with a run down
of what to expect, with the emphasis on form.

FORM when starting,
     FORM when coming up,
          FORM when finally skiing,
FORM when approaching wake or waves,
                    FORM when gracefully giving out.

They suggested 2 people share an hour so as to give some time for rest
between runs. They started us on the BOOM, about 3 ft from the side of
the boat. We then moved to a 5' rope to get the hang of coming up on a
line, but still close enough to communicate, then out to the 75' rope for
a taste of the real thing. The lake (Stiles Revervoir) was small enough
so as not to be scary, but large enough to get a 2 or 3 minute straight run.

Through out the lessons the emphasis was on FORM...

Another 'thumbs up' for Water Skis plus lessons. As mentioned
previously Ed is an excellant instructor as well as an all around nice
guy. (I just spent another rainy Saturday in his store stocking up on
ski paraphernalia I could probably do without.) I went with 3 others
people for a 2 hour lesson. The emphasis on form helped get me over
some hurdles. Even though I've been slalom skiing for a few years now,
his lesson helped tremendously. I wished I had taken it sooner. I am
contemplating taking another before the end of the summer.

Take the lesson ! You won't be sorry.
