I thought some of you might be interested in how the Auxiliary did in 1988.
Sorry, but the national totals are not yet available. 

The following performance data, for 1988, was released by the Vice Commodore 
of the First Northern District of the Coast Guard Auxiliary. The First Northern
District covers our New England area from the Canadian border to the western
Rhode Island border.

		During 1988 the First Northern Auxiliarists:

	Conducted Public Education classes for 16,000 youth and adult 
	students. This was accomplished by 991 Instructors during 8146 
	classroom hours.

	Provided 18,019 Courtesy Marine Examinations with 538 examiners.

	Produced 4410 printed and broadcast news or safety articles.

	Provided 4282 hours of Auxiliary member training to the existing
	membership and to 312 new members.
 
	Conducted Safety Patrols and other vessel or station operations 
	for a total of 30,243 hours. During these missions 351 separate 
	assists were performed and 11 boaters' lives were saved.
