250.1 | The $6million question | NRADM::WILSON | A man's place is on his boat | Tue Jan 31 1989 13:05 | 36 |

Wow, talk about a loaded question. Sounds to me like you need to a trip
to the boat show so you can "really" get confused. No one has ever found
the perfect boat yet, as every boat and every boaters needs are different.
The majority of us will spend our entire boating careers trying though.
For $15K you should have no problem finding a wide selection of 18-20'
cuddies to choose from. Listed below are the names of some that come
to mind, in no particular order (like everything else that comes out of
my head). ;^)
Wellcraft Chapparal Peterborough
Sunbird Forester Renken
Rinker Sea Ray Imperial
Thompson Citation Caprice
Stingray Four Winns Mach 1
Cobia Glastron Regal
Larson Invader Monte Carlo
Ebbtide Mark Twain Winner
At this point in time you would be well advised to stay clear of Chris
Craft, as the company is in bankrupcy, and their reputation has been
blown to hell. The reputation of Bayliner and Maxum has also been
discussed here at great length, you'll have to form your own opinion
on that one.
Good luck,
Rick W.
P.S. and welcome to the notes file. If you would like any other
information, there's no shortage of different opinions here!

250.2 | Thanks | SPKALI::BOILARD | | Tue Jan 31 1989 14:54 | 11 |
| Thanks for the input Rick, I appreciate it. I have been to several boat
shows in the past two weeks and I am indeed confused. I looked at Cobia,
Sea Ray, Teka, and Rinker plus a few others. To me Rinker seems to be the
best for the buck. It seems well built, has a good waranty and you can sit
in the cuddy cabin. It is also a very sharp looking boat. Have you, or
anybody else heard anything at all about Rinker specifically. I'm going
to look at the Ronker again on saturday and then its off to the Hartford
boat show on Sunday.
Thanks again

250.3 | V190 is a V195 with a bit more plastic | BTO::BELL | Infinity gets tedious before its over | Mon Feb 13 1989 14:34 | 47 |
|
I bought a 1987 Rinker V195 (bowrider) with 4.3L 2bbl (175 hp vs
the 205 if the 4bbl) outdrive is OMC Cobra. It was placed in
the water July 1st 1987, which is also the period of time when
it had its only problem (a $.25 micro switch which would cost
$50.00 if I bought it , which is part of the ignition "interrupter"
circuit, which fouls the firing of the engine to decrease rpm
to make it easier to shift into and out of gear ... don't ask why
they do it that way, I'm assuming its an OMC specific trait).
Minor item, but I wasn't very happy at the time. By the way,
the micro-switch never failed on the bench ... the only reason
I know is that I was the one troubleshooting the problem with
the dealer and OMC on the phone.
My model has back to back seats, with seats on each side of
the engine which can be raised to become flush with the top
of the engine making a mini-sundeck. Alternate config is capt
chairs, bench in front of the engine, and full sundeck. Cuts
down on usefull space, but its pretty.
Full width glass swim platform, which in addition to the perceived
quality of construction (not about to take the saw out) and
the fact that the one on the lot was the only "real" color (red)
sold me. With its 8'2" width (beam for you nautical types)
and the seating at the pointy end, it offers plenty of space
for 4 divers and their gear. I pressed along the hull my first
visit and got no yield whatsoever on the hull.
Trailering - I do it 2x a year ... once in, once out. Single
axle trailer doesn't really cut it if you trailer alot in my
opinion, the boat is kinda heavy for my baby Blazer (but thats
another story).
Skiing - wake is not pro quality, but since I'm not either,
no great shake.
Overall, I like the boats handling (though its a real dog
with the engine tilted up, like at the overly crowded ramp)
but aren't all I/O's that way?
Can't say the boats perfect, though I really can't find fault
with it either. Its still young, but I'm satsified (the AM/FM
cassette is kinda nice too :-) though it need a real antenna).

250.4 | Bought it! | SPKALI::BOILARD | | Wed Mar 08 1989 14:05 | 9 |
| Well, for anybody that may be interested. I ended up buying a Rinker
V190 with a 175hp Mercruiser, full teak swim platform, full camper top, trailer,
and coast guard package for $14.5k. The boat should be in a couple of weeks.
A friend of mine bought the exact same boat. We did alot of shopping and
found this to be a really excellent deal. Its the only 19ft cuddy that people
can actually sit comfortably in that I found for this price. Any other Rinker
owners out there?

250.5 | Test a on a Rinker in Trailerboats Magazine | SMART5::JGUNNERSON | JLG | Tue Jun 06 1989 14:26 | 5 |
| FWIW to anyone else interested, the new Trailerboats magazine (June,
I assume) has a test on a Rinker cuddy with a Volvo duoprop. They
had mostly good things to say about the boat and the drive.

250.6 | Rinker V210 OK | MUSKIE::LEFEBVRE | | Fri Sep 01 1989 11:30 | 11 |
| I have a 1987 Rinker V210 cuddy with the OMC 4.3L 175HP engine and am
very pleased whith the package. It runs out arount 40-43 MPH depending
on load(19" prop).
I can pull a 200# skier on one ski with 5 people in the
boat (17" prop). The only real complaint I have with the boat,
is that nothing is through-hull bolted and the screws that hold
everything down must be re-tightened constantly. I have now started
to replace the screws with stainless bolts and nuts. Also the engine
is somewhat noisy, and I am thinking about lining the engine cowl
with foil-backed foam from Overtons. Rob
