| I am looking for the same info. I just bought a Boston Whaler at
Gauche Bros on route 20 in Shrewsbury. I got a good deal on the
boat but their electronics prices seem kind of high. They sell
the Impulse 2800 graphics fishfinder for $650, the Impulse 3000
loran for $850 - $895, and the combination unit Impulse 2830 that
has the combined features of the 2800 and the 3000 for $1149.
I called Impulse yesterday for other retailers in the area but
neither of the two dealers they gave me carry Impulse. I called
the Boats/US special order number and they told me that Impulse
"will not sell to us." I don't know why or anything.
Finally, I called Impulse back and got the number of their local
distributor, Mike Tabor @ 617-631-3169 (his home number) and got
his answering machine. So far he has not called me back.
I do not know what this hunt implies about their service if something
goes wrong with the gear. Ron at Gauche Bros mentioned that if
something went wrong that couldn't be fixed in two days that he
would give me a new unit. His electronics guy didn't paint such
a rosy picture, saying that this policy was good only for the first
month.
The Impulse number in California is (415) 439-1920.
I'll keep you posted if I get any more info.

| My husband and I just purchased the 2830 in June. We purchased
it at Granz Marine in Salem, NH along with all of the periphenalia
involved with mounting etc. Granz only had one unit left and it
was the demo model. They didn't claim to know much about them but
we had already done our homework so we didn't need their knowledge.
We have already had to send the unit back to the factory for service
as we could not start the loran. It would not pick up the station
signals. When we phoned the company, they sent us a new coupler
(where we thought the problem was) and when it turned out that this
was not the problem, we returned it to them. They had the unit
2 days and returned it to us 2nd-day air as promised.
Their service guaranteed is no charge on warrantee and then a set
fee for every year thereafter no matter what the problem. And they
promise to return 2nd-day air.
They unit is magnificent and gives more information than you can
use. It has already gotten us back to the mouth of the Merrimack
in some of that hazy, hot weather we've had. Worked like a charm.
Hope this helps.
