34.0. "Merrimack River Cruising" by ATSE::URBAN () Tue Jun 07 1988 15:10

Has anyone out there done any boating on the Merrimack River
between Nashua and Lowell? It looks like it might be a nice ride and
its convienent. I'd be putting a 16' I/O in at Nashua behind Greeley Park
unless someone has a better ramp location.

Is it as nice as it looks? Anything out there to beware of? Does
anyone have any info on depth, obstructions, etc. I've been toying with
the idea for 2 years but have had trouble getting any first hand info on the
river.

Yes! The merri-muck is a fine river, Th only place to look out for
is the rocks in No. Chelmsford just above stony brook, By Vespa.

The water is class B-C in quality ( ok to swim in, not to drink)
and the fishing is Exellent. There is a good ramp in Lowell by
the Old bath house. and I hear there is a new on in No. Chelmsford
    that I have't used.

Just read the water and you will be fine, You can go from the Pawtucket
    Dam upstream to Manchester Dam.

The Merrimack River Watershed Assn. has a nice map for a couple
of bucks that you might like, Call them in Newburyport

I keep my boat " Rainbow Chaser" on the river in Newburyport. The
lower section is a nice trip also from Haverhill to the Sea.

I just spoke to those folks. They seemed real nice. The map
costs 3.95 and they apparently (I haven't recieved it yet)
also have a prose description of the river for boaters,
presumably giving depths, etc. The address is:
