20.0. "Removing old bow numbers" by IAMOK::BELL (dtn 273-3217 VRO5-2/D6) Tue May 24 1988 16:35

    I have to remove the Maine registration numbers from
    my boat and replace with MS. Does anyone have an easy
    way to do this?

    My brother-in-law uses a hair-dryer to heat the old numbers up....then
    they peal right off.....

    	Ditto. I used a hair drier to help remove some decals on my
    boat. It wasn't easy but it did help. Any adhesive residue can be
    removed with either Acetone or lacquer thinner.

	Rubbing alcohol is non-reactive with gel-coat, also its found
	around most houses.

    Use anything but M.E.K.(Methyl Ethyl Keytone) it is used as a solvent
    with polyester resin.

    I have used a single edge razor many times with exellent results.
    Then remove the adhesive with minerial sprites. If needed wet sand
    with 600 grit crocus cloth for that "just like new" look.
    Then buff with automotive rubbing compound and wax.
