| Marti,
Depends which country you are considering emigrating to, each have
their own regulations. Most places require you to have a work permit,
and they can be difficult to obtain.
As for transferring in Digital, it is possible, but be prepared for a
lot of work and frustration along the way - it can be a lengthy
process. You would need to find a job yourself and international
relocation assistance is not generally offered, so you'd have to foot
the bill.
You can get more information from the High Commission/Embassy of the
country you wish to emigrate to. Directory Enquiries here will have
the numbers, most of the Embassies are in London.
Pat Dufour @ako used to have responsibility for international
relocation from Europe to the USA, unsure if that is still the case
though.

I don't know about Canada, I came from Germany to the US and

Negative re red tape......this is a humanoid term to describe
the feeling of being tied up and imobilized by the government and
corporate beaureaucracy.

days if they couldn't make U wait with formalities?
Triing to imagine a planet without beaureaucracy, BenJ. ;)

351.8 | Bureaucracy serves a purpose... | LJSRV1::LAMBRECHT | Life is fun, live it! | Wed Jun 28 1995 20:21 | 10 |
| The reasoning behind bureaucracy is: while you're struggling through
the process of collecting your itineries, you're given time to
think the steps through that led you towards your decision.
In the case of immigration:
The immigration institute does a final selection: only the toughest
people, who showed persistency and survival instincts are welcome.
The rest gives up through the bureaucracy process.

| Thanks Folks, Its a little clearer. Thanks Martina for your mail, I
will respond later.
I am thinking about this for a change in life, I have had a lot of
set backs in my life and I feel that total new direction or even
country would help me, i.e. new faces. BUT I have to stick it out here
for a while mainly because I love my girlfriend and hope to marry
again one day, I think she would maybe think of this maybe sometime,
but she needs to be with her mother meantime.
She is off on holiday to Gran Canarie with her mum for a week on
Monday. Its difficult trying to feel okay about this, I trust her 100%
but I think I just would have liked to be with her on a holiday too.
Anyone have ideas how I can feel good about it, I will be backshift
that week 2pm to 10pm, I am sure I will manage. 8-}.
Marti (Sorry for drifting of the subject!_)

351.10 | Take your mind off it. | VYGER::HAMILTONS | | Thu Jun 29 1995 12:16 | 23 |
| Martin,
My girlfriend who used to work for DEC, left to go to another
big american multi-national. She was there a week before she had to go
to Singapore on business, for two weeks ! During that time I was
training at the gym four nights a week and I spent some good quality
drinking time with my mates at the weekend. That was in May.
On the 22nd July she will leave for California for a month !! More
business. While I will miss her, I will use the time that I have
for things like my weight-training, playing rugby, going out with
my mates on "boys only nights". That way, I will be totally refreshed
for her coming back, after letting off a lot of steam over those four
"short" weeks.
The time will fly,......if you keep yourself busy !
Good luck
