    Hi everybody!  Thank you for all the mail and the "Hi's".  Sorry it
    took me so long to answer, but right now my normal shifts are Friday
    and Saturday 11-7.  I do work some other times, but only when the
    regular (full-time) people are on vacation or sick. 

    Please keep writing, I will answer as soon as I can. Could you include
    a way for me to find you all on the VAX phone also?

    the sale. If you have internet access, we can keep in touch with you

    I have a computer at home, and I might subscribe to internet. It
    depends on how much it costs etc.  I don't know what kind or computer
    system the new company will have, so I don't know what I will have
    access to.

    I hope the contract company I work for will continue working for this
    new company.  Who knows maybe SCI (the new guys) will even hire a few
    of us as permanent employees.  There is a plant wide meeting Monday
    3/6/95 to tell the employees what's happening.  So till then who knows?

Well, DEC has a policy against allowing outside access to notesfiles but email
does work. Let us know before to late and send mail when you're back online. I'm
sure any one of us would be willing to post a note of how you're doing and what
your new email address is.

  Welcome to Friends. I'm glad you acted when you did. Another 5 weeks and you
would have lost your chance to access this notesfile!

  It's always kind of sad when Digital sells a plant. In terms of notesfiles
such as this one, the most difficult thing is that the people in the sold-off
plant can no longer access notesfiles. Yes, people can send email and have it
posted in a notesfile, but it isn't the same.
  I think there is a good chance that SCI will keep the VAXes and the user
accounts on them; Quantum did when they took over part of Digital's storage
business. And there is a good chance these VAXes will stay on the Internet.
There will continue to be a LOT of communication between Digital and the 
Augusta plant. If there is no Internet link, we will be in big trouble!
  -.1 showed how to convert an internal (node::name) email address to an 
Internet email address. That should work in both directions (unless SCI decides
to change your node name, in which case you will need to tell us the new name).
  For those outside New England, Augusta is in central Maine (not to be con-
fused with Augusta, GA). The facility is a mfg plant which manufactures
network products for Digital and others. It has been sold to SCI, one of the
largest contract electronic mfrs in the U.S. ("Contract mfr" means mfg done
for other companies under contract).

    Hi!  I just found out that April 1st is an important date.  I don't
    know what will be happening after that.  So I'd like to start now and
    ask for  addresses, internet addresses or anything I can use to stay in
    touch with everybody.  It would be too much to hope that this plant
    will keep anything to do with the DEC computer system.  I heard they
    use (gasp) IBM.

    I guess I can't complain, I've heard some pretty good thing about SCI.
