248.0. "Instincts, do you trust yours?" by TFH::TOMAO () Wed Sep 14 1994 18:43

    Instincts....and do you trust them?

Some people claim women have "intuition". I think everyone has it -
its just that some people pay more attention to it then others.

I try to go with my 'gut reaction', that first impulsive feeling, for
everything from meeting people to taking tests for school, do you?

yeah, I have intuition in some areas. I find that I'm able to debug code with
it. People find it uncanny when I can get into a million line system and track
down obscure stuff. It's paid off over time. I don't tend to use it with people.
It seems to be overridden by my optomistic belief that people are generally good
and not out to screw me.

I have seen it in other people as well. I'm almost lead to believe that it's
something similar to the ESP ability seen in some people. They're picking up
some cue outside our senses.

I use my intution all the time. When I have a very strong feeling, I
go with it, especially where people are concerned! That's what compelled
me to see Steve again after meeting him the first time!! Glad I listened
to it!

Instincts? Yeah, I've got 'em and I usually trust 'em. When I don't
trust 'em then I usually get into trouble....

It doesn't take instincts for ME to get into trouble 8^)

I've learned the hard way to listen to my instincts. They're
    usually right on.

I agree with all of you...Animals have a far superior natural
instinct than us, we can learn from them....I trust them before people.

I think everybody's misusing the words "intuition" and "instinct".
The insticts are 'motherhood', 'need of sex and food' etc. while the
    intuitions are sophistical paralogisms.

No animal but human has a neo-cortex in its brain. Maybe, that's the
main reason that we have lost some of our intuitive behaviors.

According to the American Heritage Dictionary, intuition is "the fact of
knowing as if by instinct, without conscious reasoning", and instinct "a
powerful motivation or instinct", so I think we can pretty well use the word
as Holly intended it!

APA (American Psychologists Association) extinguish the
    meanings of these words.
Intuition is partly related with subconscious and pre-conscious studies
(can be a concern of parapsychology) while instincts are generally
    related with genetics and behaviorism.

I think that in some ways past experiences 'train' us to act in
a certain way when encountering new situations. There is also the
familiarity thing with people that I've known for a while -
it is easier to detect when they behave out of character.

I listen to my 'inner voice' a lot more now that when I was younger
and can frequently 'feel' when something is amis. Although there are
occasions where I am wrong, over time they frequently prove to be
    correct.

mmm...Nobody liked my search of common language. Be cool friends, I think
you don't act intuitively but with prejudices. I live too far away to
you but want to be closer with you. Turn to your own self and feel how
innocent you are. I'm not a star trek rocketeer who try to hubble
bubble bright sentences to frown you on, I'm just a simply mortal point
    in the universe.

    First;
If people demand friendness from each other, the first thing they
should do is to understand each other truely; and as soon as I'm concerned
    " that's why we use LANGUAGE ".

    Second;
Beware of your naughty tone, it is unlike you to behave like this. It
seems you should attend psychoanalysis sessions for a personal
    reorganization.
