234.0. "Animals DO the funniest things!!" by TFH::ANDERSONM (Taking the QUANTUM leap!!!) Mon Jul 25 1994 14:54

Wen gave me a great idea for this note. She told some funny
animal stories over in the NOOK and it's difficult to drink and
laugh at the same time, so I think it might be fun for the "animals"
    	to have their own note..

SO... place your animal stories in here and share 'em with all of
us... a laugh keeps us happy!!!

Ok, I'll start it off, but you really had to be there to appreciate
this one. If only I had a video camera this day.

Tom and I were in the yard raking leaves. We have alot of leaves and
the piles get pretty high. Our neighbor had a golden retreiver and we
have an adopted golden. The dogs were being their usual selves and
running around the yard playing tackle, when the neighbors dog starting
from across the yard, ran full blast and leaped into a pile of leaves
and disappeared. Our golden just stood there in amazement, "where did
she go?" About 10 seconds later she came blasting out of the other
side of the pile, but it really was the funniest thing.

MISERY---Tamey's pot-bellied pig--- was spoiled. He used to sit
at the refrigerator door and beg for grapes...

Well, one day he got into the trash in the kitchen and I yelled
at him to go to his room...his room being the bathroom... so off
he trotted! He was real quiet so I figured he was asleep or
pouting so I went to check on him and the sight was comical. There
he was, this 70 pound black pig sitting in the middle of the
bathroom totally wrapped in toilet paper... he went and unrolled
the toilet paper just like a 2-yr old would... hehehehe....I went
to get my camera but he got up and ran after me before I could snap
    	the pic.

I was sitting down in the kitchen of my parents house during a
really bad ice-storm one night. Just outside the window in the kitchen
is a bird feeder. Now the cats had a habit of jumping from the deck
onto the birdfeeder and meowing to be let in through the window (which
we did). Well, one of the cats was still outside during this storm and
decided he wanted in. All I saw from the kitchen table was just a flash
of white (white cat) as the cat slid off the icy roof of the birdfeeder
and into the side of the brick chimney.

laughed so hard my stomach hurt for the whole night...

234.4Ducks really quack me up...WRKSYS::REITHJim WRKSYS::Reith MLO1-2/c37 223-2021Mon Jul 25 1994 19:2816
We had ducks for a couple of years and the kids really enjoyed them. They used
to follow us around the yard. One day we were sitting at the kitchen table and
the ducks decided to get up on the front steps and peck at the screen and quack.
My daughter let them in and they trooped through the house to the dogs' water
dish (a rectangular plastic basin) and promptly got a drink. Eventually one
climbed in and "bathed". Once they were done they curled up near the sink and
kept an eye on the dish. The dogs and cats never bothered them and they didn't
back down for each other. It got to be a regular thing for them to come
"knocking" at the door once they realized that the dogs had fresh water inside.
The other funny habit was that I could quack and call them. If they were off in
the woods foraging I could quack and they'd come back (I used to do it when I
fed them). When it started getting light in the morning and I'd be getting up
for work, if I coughed or made too much noise, they'd start quacking until I
went down and fed them. I miss the ducks...

234.5Here, chicky!!TFH::ANDERSONMTaking the QUANTUM leap!!!Mon Jul 25 1994 19:3810

We used to have a chicken and she didn't know she was a chicken.
Her name was Henrietta! When we fed the dogs and cats, we'd call
them and she'd come running across the yard and eat too. She liked
their food! Then when we fed the horse, she'd run down there with
us and eat Starbuck's food too! In the winter we'd find her curled
up in the old shed with the dogs and cats...ALL of them in one
big pile with Henrietta on top and in the middle of it all!!!

We had this big orange tom cat (Pumpkin) and he was friendly with
the dogs too. Everyone once in a while, the dog (Shaker) would
start teasing Pumpkin by swatting her with his paw. One day I
caught him with Pumpkin's WHOLE head in his mouth and he started
running towards the frog-pond in the woods. Minutes later he
returned and he sat on the back stoop. A few minutes after that,
Pumpkin return SOAKED....he saunters up to Shaker and YUP, you
guessed it, Shaker grabs Pumpkin AGAIN and runs off towards the
frog-pond yet another time. After about the third time, Pumpkin
returned but jumped on the well house instead of trying to cuddle
with the dog... it was funny to watch this big black dog with
1/2 an orange cat hanging from his mouth!!! hehehe

One of our ducks got stepped on and it's leg broken. Since they were pets, we
taped it up and brought it in the house for a while. It spent a 4-6 week
recovery in our jacuzzi. It would get lonely and quack and be answered by the
ones outside. It would say "good morning" when I got up and would acknowledge us
when we went in to the bathroom. It really enjoyed getting cleaned up in the
shower 8^) The ducks liked the hose as well and they'd line up to take it full
in the chest whenever I was out watering the flowers. If you didn't pay
attention to what they wanted from you, they'd nip at your pants legs or
shoelaces (which is how this one got stepped on). When they were ducklings, our
shepard used to herd them up on the lawn and try to keep them near the house.

When Living in Arcata, California, We had a duck pond in the apartment
complex, there were wild, and some tame ducks there. I picked a
favorite one, and named her Syliva, she would be the first one there
when I would "quack" at the ducks, and they came to be fed. Sylvia was
impatient, and it I did not give her enough she would peck my pants
leg, and then harder, and finally get a bit of my flesh in her beak.
I was sad to leave the area, but I do not think she would have liked
Germany. The ducks speak German there.

my neighbor's cat (Geddy) likes to wrestle. So if I am sitting on the
floor Geddy will sometimes walk up to me and stare right at me. If I
don't initiate anything, he starts -- first he touches my leg with a
paw, then if that doesn't work he tries pushing. If that fails, he
sometimes tries putting his mouth around my hand. It's quite funny
to watch, and obvious what he wants.

234.22Unsettled animals. Sigh...NZOV02::TANJOYCESun Jan 07 1996 19:1911
I've recently moved from the South Island of NZ (Christhchurch) to
the North Island (Wellington). And each evening, my 18 year cat walks
to the gate and sits there looking out over the harbour. I'm sure
she's contemplating a swim back to the south. When we first arrived
from the UK, she used to walk around in circles, totally confused as
    to where home was :)

The 17 year old hasn't emerged from under the bed yet, but then I'm
well trained andshe gets everything she needs delivered, so what's
    the hurry!
