     I would like to propose to not look at sizes bigger than a postcard
     and kinda fit them all in in a nice puzzle kind of way! they don't
     have to be placed all in rows and all! they may overlap! So for some 
     of you you may want half of the picture to be covered by someone 
     elses!??? This would be possible then! ;-)) 
     So honey, if you don't want my half in the poster you can now speak
     and ask for it! ;-)))) hehehehehehe

    Well, I was the one the old FRIENDS album was passed on to..or at least
    it contents and I still have all the photos, so, I will volunteer to
    take on the assignment of creating the poster and getting the copies
    made, but, I do request that folks volunteer to help pick up the cost!
    
    I'll get quotes done at several places around here and post the most
    affordable price, if that seems fair?

    Yes, I will make sure there is a name with a photo to make it easier on
    everyone.  And it doesn't matter to me as to what the photos look
    like...no nudes, please! :-))
    
    Let's see, here is the deadlines so that we can get this rolling:
    
    1.  If you want your or your families pictures included, please send it
    along with identification of everyone in the photo no later than
    Friday, February 25.  If I could bother each of you to please send me a
    short note when you send your photo so I know to expect it, I will in
    turn notify each of you when I receive it.
    
    2.  As soon as I have all of the photos which should be by the first
    week in March, I will create the poster and then take it in for color
    copies.  I figure that I should be able to get color copies on poster
    size paper for about $5.00 (U.S.) each.  
                                                  
    3.  If each of you enclose the $5.00 with your photo, that should cover
    the postage of the poster back to you and the poster.  If it turns out
    to be a lot less, I'll send the change.  If you prefer to wait until I
    have a definite amount, that's fine by me.
    
    4.  If you want a copy of the poster, please let me know no later than
    Friday, February 25, so that I can give the printers an accurate count
    of how many I'll need.  It may help with discounts.  Please supply an
    address that I can send the poster too.  
    
    5.  As soon as the posters are ready I will send them out to everyone
    who has requested one.  I will try and have them back to everyone by
    the second week in March. (The earlier I receive the photos the earlier
    everyone gets their poster!)

    be up to date photos ... I have already sent mail to Shi explaining
    that I do not wish any of my OLD photos in the OLD friends album used.

    In addition to photos being up-to-date, I don't really care what the
    size is so long as they aren't 8x10s...I know a lot of pictures are 4x6

    I don't know if $5.00 is going to be enough or not.  My plan is to send
    them in cylanders and I haven't begun pricing them  yet.  I'm hoping
    that quantity will bring the price down.

    their for postage.

    $5 may be about right...I dunno. You should be able to mail it book
    rate for a bit over $1 within the USA (I've mailed many video tapes
    book rate...I think it's $1.09, but I'm not exactly sure). The post
    office should have tubes for sale for under $1 a piece......mine does

     What is the absolute deadline for you receiving the photos? The one I
    want to send needs to be developed from a negative which I only located
    last night, but I don't think it will arrive on time. It's already the
    17th, only 8 days to the deadline of the 25th......*sigh*

    Well, so far the poster is coming very very very slowly!!!!
    
    I've only received one photo so far...Theresa and Mark's...it's a great
    photo...and then there is mine with my hubby...but that's it.  I've
    heard from three others that photos are coming but none have arrived
    yet!
    
    Like I mentioned, if I hear that there is a photo coming I'll wait til
    they arrive before I make the poster up! So, don't worry about it
    Ben...if your photo doesn't show up exactly on March 1, I'll wait!

My photo and check are in the mail...I spent alot of time going through pictures
only to realize that we have hardly any good pictures of Steve and me together.
My intention was to set up the tripod and snap a few, but of course I never got

    Update on the progress...
    
    First off, wanted to let Holly know that I received her picture this
    weekend!  It's beautiful!  And I also recieved Maureen's!  Looks like
    quite the party!
    
    I began calling around to see where I could get the copies made and
    came up quite surprised when one place said it would cost $3,000 to
    have poster size prints made!  GAG!  Other places wouldn't even offer a
    quote, because they said it would be too much! 
    
    So, I called Kinko's which has can make 11" x 17" color photo copies
    and it appears it is going to take two possibly three sheets of paper
    that size to get all of the photos included and each copy goes for
    $2.98 each.  I am going to try and limit it to two sheets which would
    make the "poster" 22" x 34" and approximately $6.00 each.
    
    Which means that not including tax, postage, and the containers to mail
    the posters in, it is going to come to closer to $8 or $9 each if I
    mail them all individually....so, what I am coming to ask all of you is
    is it okay if I group as many as possible by locality and have someone
    serve as the distributor or pick-up point for the pictures?  This would
    decrease the number of containers and cut down on the postage for the
    most part as I'd only have to mail a couple across the ocean, a couple
    to New England, and one to Atlanta, and one to Alburqurque.
    
    Let me know...and I'll be accepting volunteers as designees!

    	film..... hhhmmmmmm ...  what a concept!!!!  ;^)

    I've got it!!!  Use a poster board to make up the arrangement of the
    pictures, then take a picture of the poster.  Take several to be sure
    to get the best one.  Have that film developed, choose the best one,
    and have it enlarged.  That way, you have a negative of the entire
    poster to do as Maureen suggested!

    Well, my husband and I thought about the idea of the picture of of the
    posterboard, unfortunately he left his good cameras in Canada and mine
    is one of those no thrills 35mm.  I'll see if I can try it, as I have
    some film left in my camera and see how it turns out.  I'll keep you

    We seem to be doing okay with the money scenario so far...although I
    haven't added up yet how much everything is going to cost...the posters
    and the money should come pretty close to breaking even...and I don't
    mind picking up the rest so long as it doesn't cost me an arm and two
    legs...I'm borrowing one of those fancy label makers from my hubby's
    work to label all of the folks in the pictures...so far so good.

    I'm glad that you received my picture .. it's actually just a snapshot
    someone took at the wedding.
    
    I've got a suggestion .. if it's too expensive to have a POSTER made,
    what about just fitting them onto 11X17 paper and making kind of a
    "book" for everyone?  Would that be easier and cheaper?
    
    Just a thought.
    
    

    Well, here is the update...
    
    I put the poster to gether this weekend on a sheet of paper that is 22"
    x 28" and all the photos just fit.  We took a picture, but it just
    didn't cut it to be blown up and the photo place said that it would
    problably come out somewhat blurry in areas....so...I cut the the
    poster board into three sheets that are 11" x 17" and laid the pictures
    back out again...so it looks like everyone will be receiving three 11"
    x 17" color photocopies of of the photos.   Kinko's has a great copier
    and the color copies I've had done there before turned out fantastic.
    
    But, this means that the price for each poster will be
    $9.00.  Instead of having folks send the checks for the additional
    monies, I do have an account with DCU that you could deposit the
    additional money into if that works for you.
    
    I'm waiting for one more picture to arrive that was sent out last week
    and then I'll be getting the copies made this weekend, which will mean
    that I'll be sending them out this time next week!
    
    In order to economize on the postage and tubes for mailing, I will be
    consolidating whom I mail them to and I'll post in here who will be
    receiving the posters so that folks know where to pick them up from. 
    There are a few of you who will receive them directly, and won't have
    to worry about this as you are the only one living in your area!

    1)  I don't think it's a good idea to post the account info in here. 
    There are other people reading the conference besides us good friends. 
    It could be taken advantage of.  Maybe send a message to a distribution
    list instead?
    
    2)  If you go to the DCU after there have been a number of deposits,
    and ask for a "summary of deposits" for the last week or so, they can
    print up a summary, including everyone's badge number if they do a
    transfer.  That's the easiest way to keep track of who paid.

    Well, folks, I went to pick up the posters today...sorry about the
    delay but if you see LFT you'll understand why...anyway...they look
    fabulous!!!!
    
    But, we ran into a small problem...a couple of the photos (including
    mine) were taken at professional studios and they wouldn't copy them
    without copyright releases.  So, I managed to get mine taken care of
    today, but I didn't know the studio for Serenity's, so they still won't
    copy that one.  As I didn't want to wait any longer I had them do the
    poster that she appears on and I will work on getting the copyright
    release now, or you will all have to settle with a black and white
    photocopy, which just doesn't seem fair!  Especially since the photo is
    wonderful!
    
    In the meanwhile I may send out a black and white of her until I can
    get the color one taken...I'll let you know...as I have to wait to hear
    from Serenity as to where the photo was taken.  So there is the update
    as to why you haven't received them!  Sorry for the delay!
    
    But once again, the first two posters that were copied look absolutely
    marvelous!  The colors are great and the pictures are really clear!!!

    alot, but I swear I'll get them to you come h*ll or high water...and

    Okay...this time for real...they really were sent out yesterday in big
    huge 12 x 18 padded envelopes.  My hubby and I looked high and low for
    tubes and couldn't find them anywhere...but finally found the
    envelopes...anyway, I bundled them as I stated in a previous note.  The
    ones going oversea shouldn't expect to see theirs until the end of next
    week at the earliest!
    
    And, just so you guys know what the break down was of the expense:

     Well, I got mine on Saturday. Absolutly fantastic job Shi! Now I can

    run and throw myself on that lawn chair and try to act natural.

I just saw a copy of the ::FRIENDS poster, it's really great.  What a star
Shilah is for putting it all together!

This is just a quick note to say how nice it was to see everyone, both those
I know and those I don't; all the ladies looking stunningly glamourous, and all
the guys their usual handsome selves!

Whoever submitted the photo of me, thanks... not the best one, but better than
nothing!  I didn't hear about the poster until too late to send a new one :-(

    In my humble opinion, Joyce Tomao oughta be snapped up by Honda
    motorbikes because there is something uniquely incredible about her
    pose with the motorbike. There is a message there in that Joyce makes
    the bike like it's a fashion accessory.. or something.
    
    As a keen amateur photographer, I especially like the shot.. it 
    captures Joyce's great sense of fun and her enormous spirit as a lady of 
    action.
    
    (I like the other photos too.. it's just that having met Joyce in real

    Due to the major expense of trying to fit them all on one huge sheet of
    paper, it was decided to make 3 pages all 11" x 17".  It was
    easier/cheaper to copy and ship the 'poster' that way.
    
    Shi not only put it all together but also took the time to type up all
    the names and where they are on the poster so you know exactly who is

    Hello Terrie!
    
       ... photo.... right now I don't have any nice one of me. Only one
       with long blond hair from 3 years ago...
       with all my stuff here I completely forgot about it.
       Ok. Does anybody know a really good portrait studio around here
       (within 40 min driving distance from Littleton)?
       I have to do one anyways for my mom. She's got only the one with
       blond long hair now. ;)

    Martina....If you don't want to spend alot of money, Sears and Bradlees
    have nice portrait studios, and you can usually get a good set for
    about $20.00.  If you want to have a great time, get a full make-over,
    and spend quite a bit more, (ie $150.00-$200.00) there's always

    AH...but keep in mind the trouble Shilah ran into.  She couldn't get
    the posters made with photos that had a studios trademark on them.

    Ok, then .... I could .... well..... guess then it has to wait until
    I come back from vacation. My ex has our photo equipment. And I would
    love to try to do portrait photography. Go outside when the sun is
    dawn,,,,, use the diffuse orange-red light as special lighting and
    experiment a little with different facial arrangements and full body
    postures. The sundown light together with subtle flashlight should get
    a perfect lighting, I guess. Shoot a full film with me,,,,, one of the 
    shots should come out right, I think. ;)
    That would be fun. I'll ask my ex today. Unfortunately he didn't bring
    the photo equipment here.

    Actually, they finally did agree to use the professional pictures.
    (See Serenity's picture on the last posters.)  I've talked to a place
    that will use them for us, since for all intent and purposes, they are
    just colored photocopies, just better quality.

  Are you saying you don't have any cameras at all? Or that you don't have 
the fancy stuff that would be needed to do good portraits? 
  You can buy a good camera cheap if you shop around. And you really shouldn't

    I agree with Bob.  I just bought a cheap Kodak 35mm camera
    at WalMart for $38.00, and it takes great pictures.  Granted,
    it won't last as long as one of those $600.00 jobbers, but it
    works for me.  I stress, the quality of the photos it takes
    are EXCELLENT! (I was amazed!)

    Methinks we should attempt to do another ::FRIENDS poster/photo album
    to incorporate all our new Friends, as well as those who've been Notin'
    in here all along. I know, for me, at least, it's easier and more fun
    to have a picture of the person yer Notin' with in yer head - in lieu
    of on-line video conferencing, that is! ;-)))
    
    So, what do y'all have to say about it? Shall we make an updated
    version or were there too many unforseen problems in the past? 
    
    If we decide to, we should probably discuss: a) Who will be the focal
    point; b) size and type of picture (ie, 3x5 color); c) whether pictures
    or negatives should be used; d) the format of the finished product (ie,
    poster or album); e) postage concerns; and, f) pricing; amongst any
    other areas of concern that arise.
    
    Everyone's input would be GREATLY APPRECIATED!!!

    Just as a minor suggestion (because I put the last one together and
    learned the hard way) pictures should not be from paid photographers if
    you plan on having color copies made...they have been copyrighted and
    so they can't be copied.
    
    Also, a monetary donation like we did last time really is necessary
    because if you price color photo copying you'll see that it ranges
    anywhere from $.50 to $3.00 for one copy.
    
    Ummm...let's see what else...if folks want their pictures back that
    they send in...they should send a self-addressed stamped envelope.

    Shi: Wouldn't such items fall under the "Work For Hire" clause of the
    Copyright Act and, therefore, the copyright would revert to the
    purchaser and not the studio?

    I tried that line on Kinko's and they said the work and the right to
    make re-prints is owned by the studio.  For examply, last time there
    were a couple of pictures from Olan Mills and JCPenny and somewhere
    else...they each own the right to make reprints...we got around most of
    them by getting a form or by my signing a statement that said I wasn't
    going to be selling them...that they were for personal use...which was
    the truth...but it was still a big pain in the butt!

    Shi: I find your last Note very intriguing, and rather amazing as well!
    I was always under the impression that anything created for a price was
    considered a "Work For Hire", but I guess not. These companies must or
    may have a clause in their contract for the service that declares their
    exclusive rights for reprints, etc. I guess your comments should, at
    the very least, be a word of warning for anyone who has their pictures
    taken by a studio or any professional organization. Anyway, I don't
    think it'd be all that difficult for those who wish to contribute to
    have thier pictures taken either by themselves, family, or friends.
    
    Thanks for the info! I'm sure it'll assist in the speed and efficiency
    for completing the project if undertaken.

    So far, I think there's only 3 or 4 people who've expressed their
    willingness to have the ::FRIENDS '96 mug shot done. In order to make
    it worthwhile, I hope there'll be more people participating...
