You are surely increasing your life by reducing the stress level.
I visited PKO3-2 to see some former friends from Training, the stress
there was so heavy, you could cut it with a knife. There were no
smiles anywhere there, just existance.
Digital is not a fun place these days.

| Just an FYI, I saw M-L this weekend! she went to the cat show that I
was at in Concord, NH. She is doing well. Hasn't found a job yet, but
may possibly be working for the Humane Society.
She looks great, and said to say "hi" to everyone here. I'll be seeing
her next week probably at the show in Worcester, so if anyone wants me
to relay a message to her, I'd be more than happy to.

| Was driving down to San Luis, Colorado (oldest town in CO.) on
Saturday, and the car I bought from my BIL started Hydroplaning, and
further on the snow started so I turned around near the Santa Isabel
exit, and went and got 4 new tires. General XP2000's.
The drive in this am in the snowstorm, the car drove perfectly.

The poor performers were all weeded out in the first TFSO and they got
2 years salary... the rest of us who are doing okay, get less and less,
and now I hear that in September the lot who go will get NOTHING...

The same place it was four years ago, Dave. Back in '90 the company
tried to get the population down by offering big incentives to leave.
I consider myself extremely fortunate because I was already planning to
leave the company when my group was offered the buyout (i.e. I would
have left with no package if it hadn't been offered). The trouble is
that not enough people left of their own accord.
At the time I remember conversations with a number of friends during
which I suggested that: 1) 1990 was just the first in a series of
downsizing operations and 2) the severance package would get
progressively smaller over time. Incidentally, not everyone who took
the first TFSO was a poor performer. :-)
I know a lot of folks are hurting through all of this, but in all
fairness, it's not exactly an unexpected turn of events. For many of
us, the writing was all over the walls 10 years ago. And fwiw, a lot
of us who left have found that life after DEC can be very rewarding.
At the last NOTES gathering I attended, the most frequently voiced
sentiment from the (several) ex-DECies who attended was, "It's the best
thing that's happened to me in a long time."
Chin up gang. It's a little scary at first, but it can be the
beginning of a wonderful new phase of life.

I wish I could report some good news, but the results were very bad. Not
only were the treatments unsuccessful, but the cancer has spread to my mom's
liver. All they can do is keep her comfortable now, at least that's a relief.
I'm just trying to hang on hear. Now my eyes are all filled with tears.
Have to stop writing now.

| Whoa Dave...that POWER KISS knocked my socks off!!!!!!!! I think this is
going to be hardest on my dad, but he's doing amazingly well. Of course, he
has his moments...
It's hard on all of us though, we're a very close family. I'm very lucky for
having such a fine lady as my mom...wish I was more like her!!!!!

| I was all set and ready to leave. I will be notified Monday that I'm
getting laid off. My boss told me almost 3 weeks ago so I've had time
to adjust. At first I tried to get a job within but soon came to the
conclusion it was time to leave. I started making *big* plans,
wonderful plans and not soi wonderful plans (like living in even less)
Then came the phone call and the interview that went very well for a
job in Shrewsbury, just 3.9 miles from my home. I will know by
tomorrow if I've been offered the job so I need to decided by then what
I want to do. I'm leaning toward staying and the job sounds pretty
interesting but I still feel the pull to leave........
Since all this was up in the air I wasn't going to say anything until I
knew for sure.

| Yikes! I seem to have several of these lately :^}
But I have to say.......I've got mixed emotions about being a future
Quantum employee.
Looks like basic bennies are there - health plan, we don't loose
senority and the vaca bennies are a little nicer (I'll get an extra
week) BUT I will no longer have access to notes and I won't get
tuition reimbursement :^(
Tuition was a major factoring in my taking the job here (beside the 4
mile communte) and now I'm feeling saddened that once again my future
plans are in jeopardy...............

| Well folks, I'll be catching the next flying saucer out of here - it
leaves on Friday.
While I'll miss the network and all the people I've met (the ones who
are still here) I can't say I'll miss Digital - this isn't the company
I signed up with. Guess I'm still a DECie at heart.
I'm not looking for a job yet. I think this is my golden opportunity
to try and break into freelance art, which is what I've been thinking
about doing for awhile. Between the package and unemployment, I figure
I have six months to become self-supporting. I think I can do it. If
not, well I can always fall back on my computer graphics skills; I hear
there's a big demand for that. (thanks DEC!)
All in all it's been a positive experience. Even the past three years
were good for me because they forced me to think about what I really
want to do. My only regret is that I didn't get involved with the
notesfiles sooner. (I would've made it to more parties!) :^)
That's all I can think of to say. Lots of luck and best wishes to
everyone.

| Thanks to everyone for the good wishes. You wouldn't believe how much
flak I'm getting around these parts because I don't plan to get a
"real" job. I'm really going to miss this notesfile.
Jen, I'm embarrassed to admit that I never got around to getting my
drivers license (once DEC eliminated business travel I found I really
didn't need one). It's the second thing on my To Do list for next
week, though (first thing is signing up for unemployment).
I'll try to pop back in later (don't you hate these long dragged out
goodbyes? :^) ). My exit interview isn't till 4 pm but I still have
lots to finish before then. (Not work - cleanup and tying loose ends.)

My daughter was and has been a great comfort to me for many years.
She's always there for me with a big hug and kiss when I"m down or

Well, talk about mixed emotions!!! MAN, I have them.
All week I've been so busy that I really didn't have that much
time to think about what impact today is causing to my life. I
walked into the building with a girl who said to me, "I woke up
this morning, realizing that today is the my last day with DEC."
I've thought of that but not seriously. I'm going to be doing the
SAME job in the SAME office with the SAME people, only for a
DIFFERENT company. Hmmmmmmm.
I traded in my DEC badge for my QUANTUM badge. no number, just a
picture and my name. (At least I don't have to memorize ANTOHER
number!) I think that's when it hit me. I have left a company
that I've been with almost 11 years.
There have been many many changes in my life lately and this is a
biggie!!!!! But I CAN and WILL handle it.
Well, off to the NOOK for a drink! I'm firsty!!!! ;^)
