Ok..Lola asked for a review of what's happening at Spooky World this year.
Here are the Spooky Facts
Spooky World in Berlin, MA (near the Northboro Rotary) is open every night in
October starting at 7:00 p.m. They are supposedly open till midnight on
Fridays and Saturdays but only till 10:00 p.m. on Sundays thru Thursdays.
This is there 5th year in operation and they've added more stuff!
There is of course the Spooky Haride tour. Then there is Tom Savini's walk
thru haunted house, and my favorite the American Horror Museum with props and
stuff from all sorts of horror movies and TV shows.
Like last year they have live tarantulas, snakes, and bats in the "Creatures
of the Night" Pavillion but unlike last year I didn't see them letting people
hold them (but it could be that I was there late the night I went and it
was opening night).
They've expanded their gift shop with more merchandise in a second building.
Some of the people appearing this year are as follows:
Kane "Jason" Hodder from Friday the 13th
Linda "The Exorcist" Blair
Doug "Pinhead" Bradley
George "Michael Myers" Wilbur
Tom Savini
Troma Studio's "Tromettes"
David "An American Werewolf In London" Naughton (aka Dr. Pepper singer)
Bobby "Boris" Pickett
Tiny "Tip Toe thru the Tulips" Tim
Trom Studio's The Toxic Avenger
Different people on different night so call if you really want to know who is
gonna be there when!
They've also added a simulator ride based on the movie Aliens. It is pretty
good as simulators go but costs $5 extra.
The 24 hour Spooky Hotline is (508) 838-0200. You can also but tickets thru
Ticketmaster.
Now for the SCARIEST part of SPOOKY WORLD ----> Their pricing!
Monday thru Thursday $15.50
Friday and Saturday $18.50
If you organize a group of 20 or more and buy your tickets at least 24 hours
in advance you can get $3 off the rates on Sunday thru Friday. No group
discounts offered for Saturday nights.
Happy Hauntings!

RE: -1
I liked Spooky World but have been twice before and not too much
changes. It is fun but I do think the price is getting a bit out of
line.
Anyway...as for the simulator ride, you watch a little video outside
while waiting in line. You enter a theater like room and sit is
raised seats grouped in twos, buckel yourself in and away you go.
There is a movie shown in front of you and your seat moves in sync with
the motions you're seeing in front of you.
I won't tell you what you see/do cuz I don't want to spoil it!

| Thanks /jen...I was about to send you a note today asking how it was.
Wow, their prices sure do sound a little out of line, especially for
a peon like me who doesn't make big $$$.
I've been on a number of simulator rides, they can really be amazing.

there is not a hope in hell that I will get there this year!
you can mail me if that is preferable so as not to spoil it
for anyone else!

| On some simulator rides, you sit in a chamber with about 10 x 5 seats and
the whole chamber moves. It sounds like this setup is different, the seat-pairs
move but the room doesn't. Right?
Does this ride have signs outside saying don't take this ride if you have
XYZ health problems?
I have only taken one simulator ride: The Star Wars one at Universal in Or-
lando. It was interesting to do once but I really don't want to take any more.

Hi...sorry for the delay. Have been really busy!
I'm not too sure what else to say about the simulator but I'll try to
put some more details in.
You go up to the ride which looks like a small building. You get into
one of several lines to wait to enter. The lines are staggered up on
various levels because when you enter the building it is sloped like a
movie theater so you can see above the people in front of you.
While you wait outside you see a video on a monitor that tells you
about the mission you are about to undertake. It seems you are going
back to the planet with the ALIENS to help rescue some crew
members...you just have to hope you can get there on time and get out
alive!
The doors enter and you see rows of raised seats in pairs. I think
there were 4 groups of 2 in each row....and maybe 4 or 5 rows. You hop
up into the seat, fasten a seat belt and have chair arms with a
vertical bar at the end of each arm that you can curl your hands around
to hang on better.
The simulators are pretty sophisticated these days. They can tell if
anyone hasn't fastened their seatbelt and notify them to do so. Also,
once the ride starts, I don't think you can release your seatbelt till
the ride ends.
The video starts and it shows you traveling to the planet and then
searching around for the folks to be rescued. The seats basically
lurch forward and back and tilt up and down in synch with the action on
the screen. You also have surround sound to enhance the effect of the
whole thing.
They try to simulate little things like the slight shake / noise of a
flamethrower frying an alien as well as big things like explosions.
But all and all...they only have a certain range of motion and
differentiation.
The best simulator I've been on was Back to the Future at Universal
Studios. In general, in most of them the spell is too easily broken by
seeing the other folks sitting around you in silly little chairs being
tossed around pretending to be somewhere else :^)

Well it isn't SPOOKY WORLD but for you in the Worcester area looking
for something halloweenish for a lower price, there's the Greater
Worcester Jaycees Haunted House. It is located at 189 May Street
on the grounds of the Fairlawn Rehabilitation Hospital. It is $4 for
adults and $3 for children under 12. It is open Saturdays & Sundays
from 6-9 p.m. and Fridays 6:30 to 9:00. Proceeds benefit the Jaycees
charities.
I've been and thought it was a very good walk thru haunted house! :)
Boo!
