when replying in the word association, what's the easiest
way to reply with all the words from the previous note
included?
tnx!

| If you're editing in EVE, all you have to do is press "DO" (up in the
top row next to "HELP"). You'll get a prompt at the bottom that says
"Command:" - type "other" and you'll get switched to the top part of
the screen with the original note in it. Do a copy, switch back to the
Reply part of the screen, and do a paste.
Of course if you're not using EVE this doesn't help much...

|
Easy kiddo:
type REPLY
press the DO key (this should bring up a COMMAND: prompt)
type OTHER at the COMMAND: prompt. this will put you in the top buffer
with the test of the previous reply
SELECT and REMOVE all the text
press the DO key again
type OTHER at the COMMAND: prompt. this will put you back in your
original buffer
press the INSERT HERE key
Voila'! :)

| I could never get the hang of EDT - I learned ALL-IN-1 long before I
came to work here, and it was too confusing trying to remember that the
keypad keys meant something different than what they said. Once I
found out you could set the keyboard to WPS in EVE, I never looked
back!
Ginny
|
43.7 | try this | AKOCOA::BBARRY | So, when will THEN be NOW? | Thu Dec 09 1993 17:27 | 17 |
| For those of us using EDT, I just extract the note and reply
with the extract.
EXAMPLE:
Notes> extract file.name
Notes> reply file.name
This process takes the note you were reading and extracts it out
to a file in your directory named file.name and then you can
reply file.name at the notes prompt and all the text will be included
in your reply.
It sounds harder than it really is...

| This is really going to sound stupit (ha ha), but all I do is type reply, and
all the words come up in the EDT mode. Then I delete line (PF4) to get rid
of who the previous response was by. Next, Gold 4, brings me to the bottom of
the buffer, and use my arrows to get me up to the last word. (I guess I'm
lucky that once I type in reply it's like I'm editing in EDT.) To get
out control z, ex <cr> enter a title....piece of cake!
I didn't even realize it could be so difficult! Oh well, I guess ignorance is
bliss!!

but it will only be for QUANTUM personel. We haven't worked out

You are correct-o there Lola... It IS AMACO well, maybe not

If I can make some stuffs then I"ll go to HLO. I'll probably
be setting one up here for SHR1/2 only (QUANTUM) and then try to
get someone to set one up over in SHR3 for DIGITAL. Confusing,
don't like it...

Terrie and I were in the breakroom this morning. We were the only
ones in the breakroom. The breakroom is very large here at LKG and
has ten tables which seat 12 people each.
In walks a man. He walks directly over to the table where Terrie
and I are sitting and sits down. Mind you that there are 11 empty
tables and chooses to sit at ours. We don't know him and he doesn't
know us. He sits there for about 10 minutes and doesn't say a word.
What's with this guy? Terrie and I thought it was rude because we were
talking when he walked in.

| Hiya /jen,
I've never been to the Big E, but from what I hear, if you like country
music and plan on staying for a full day, it's worth it. There are
some big stars that perform at the Big E from what I understand. It's
only about $7.00 to get in, a far cry from what you'd pay to see a
concert.

Jen,
It's very much worth it! Been several times, and always have
a superb time! Just be sure to get there very early, and give
yourself an extra 30 minutes for the drive, cuz you're gonna hit a HUGE
PILE of traffic once you get near the fairgrounds.
Have fun!

| I grew up out there and it's always been bigger than the fairs I've been to out
this way. Make sure you plan it as a whole day since there's enough exhibits for
two days.

Caution, the lines can move without notice. All you need to do is
offend ONE person and have them cause a stink. Non-work related
notesfiles have very little ground on which to stand in the workplace.
They have and will shutdown any files they feel are a liability ("they"
being corporate management).

| I've got another question - and it's stupidity depends upon your
position in the matter: Why do people who watch soap operas become so
involved with them that their characters become almost "real" to them?
Also, why do people like to pry in these actors/actresses "private"
lives? And, finally, don't the spectators realize these are nothing more
than fictional stories that exaggerate events in real life out of
proportion (IMHO, of course)?

Soap operas are just bits of fluff created by SOAP companies to
advertise their products to the home-bound. The primary purpose is
to attract as much viewership to sell the most soap. To do this they
have to have characters/plots that people can relate to.

I look at soaps as some peoples hobby. Just as your hobby can get
carried away, so can soap watching. It's escapist fare at best...

actors/actresses, making sets, props, etc...)
chico: That's an interesting viewpoint! I never thought of watching tv
as a hobby, but more as "mindless" recreation - except if you're
watching documentaries or other educational programming...

There have always been "bad" people in the world and there always
will be. The best we can hope to do is keep the good outnumbering the
bad. There are no easy answers.

| I realize that either extreme cannot "exist" without the other,
however, it seems to me that, by now, we - as a race - would have
realized that adversity and violence create more problems than they
solve and that, by getting along and using common sense, we have more
to gain by co-operation and co-existence than by combat and conflict.
What is to be gained by blowing up innocents, burning down churches,
child abuse/molestation, domestic violence/abuse, etc?

NotesFile:
I've been readin' through the DIGITAL conference and I've noticed
several people have mentioned woking for "DEC" (fondly) and "Digital"
(not-so-fondly). Forgive me for my ignorance, but don't they both refer
to the same company? and, if so, do DECcies use those references to
indicate different eras of the same company?
If anyone can explain, or at least attempt to, I'd appreciate their
replies!

I can't be exact as to the timing, but at some point (post Ken),
Senior Mgmt decreed that they no longer wanted the company to be
referred to as DEC. They wanted everybody to use DIGITAL...to boost
brand identity, etc.
However, for long term folks it can be hard to shake the DEC name.

I think it had little effect in terms of cause. Digital has had
'prevailing' problems since I started in 1984 when we had the black
tuesday stock drop.
DEC = Digital Equipment Corporation and was an easy abbreviation and
also part of DEC's Engineering culture of having acronyms for everything.
And before you ask, no I don't think there was any connection between
us changing our official corporate color from blue to burgundy had
anything to do with the decline either.
DEC or Digital, our customers know that it stands for Digital Equipment
Corporation. They also know what they WANT from us vs. what they GET
from us....that is the reason for the decline.

| The official line, which came out around 1992, is that "DEC" should not be
used to denote the company except in product names (such as "DECserver") and
the stock symbol. Since then, the press has slightly decreased its use of
"DEC", but is unwilling to give it up because space is very tight in newspaper
headlines and article titles, and because of readers' resistance to change.
