Hi, I have pulled the V7.1-1h1 field test kit from BULOVA::ALPHA$KITS:[HAILSTORM] and have tried to use it to upgrade an alphaserver 2100. This system is currently running V7.1. The kit install fail with: 1) APB (new image) This kit will NOT be installed. A regression in the level of layered functionality in [SYSEXE]APB.EXE would occur as a result of applying an additional level of bugfixes. Existing bugfix/LP level for [SYSEXE]APB.EXE: 06 / 92 The kit bugfix/LP level for [SYSEXE]APB.EXE: A4 / 00 Please contact your Digital software support representative for assistance in obtaining a new kit. Looks like the failure is occurring when kitinstal is comparing the image build id of the apb.exe on the system with that in the kit. The image build id on the system is: X6C7-0040069227, the image build id of the apb.exe in the kit is X6C7-SSB-A400. The kit install is comparing the "06" and the "92" from the existing apb.exe to the "A4" and "00" from the abp.exe in the kit and believes that the abp.exe on the system is more current than that on the system. Seems like this check is failing because the image build id of the image on the system is in a different format than the image in the kit. Seems like this problem will occur on all images in the kit. Is there no way to upgrade to V7.1-h1h? Thanks Karen Rochford Storage Subsystems Engineering

< Existing bugfix/LP level for [SYSEXE]APB.EXE: 06 / 92 This image was privately supplied to the noter by an engineer and has a later LP level than the APB.EXE in Hailstorm. Thus, the 7.1-1H1 update kit rightfully would not install its own APB image on top of the existing one. If an unofficial image is privately supplied and put on a system, that image should be removed before applying any update kits. Carol duBois, Hailstorm Project Leader | |||||
72.1 | Build Ident | SAPPHO::DUBOIS | Hailstorm Project Leader | Wed May 14 1997 17:50 | 14 |
For OpenVMS V7.1, a change to the PCSI installation was introduced which caused PCSI to change the build idents of the images which it installed. This change is no longer part of PCSI. Although the build ident used by Hailstorm (7.1-1H1) would have been sufficiently high for the old 7.1 build ident, it was not high enough for the new one. Thus, an update kit of 7.1-1H1, which does the comparison, failed if used on a 7.1 system. A full 7.1-1H1 kit, which does not compare the build idents of the files, installs just fine. Update kits for future baselevels of Hailstorm will have a new build ident so that they will install cleanly on V7.1 systems. Carol duBois, Hailstorm Project Leader |
