599.0. "Loading snapshot from Window's NT in a distributed realm" by METZFI::SIGNORINI (Mangez des pommes !) Mon May 05 1997 11:06
Hi,
I'm using BASEstar Open Server in a multi-platform
environment that includes an ALPHA with VMS 6.2 and B*Open V3.0
and an other ALPHA with Window's NT 3.51 and B*Open V3.1. I have
initialized a configuration with one REALM distributed on the two nodes.
I have generated a snapshot from the node VMS, and i would like
to load it directly with the GCU from Window's NT . I think it's
possible, instead of copying the snapshot files on the Window's NT
node local disk.
Thus, i have set the BSTR_DBACCESS_KEY environment variable, it point
to the disk which contains the snapshot file, and this disk is
shared between the two machines. But, when i use the LOAD SNAPSHOT
command from the BASEstar Open Configurator, this command fails.
The exact error message that i get when i try to use the LOAD
SNAPSHOT command from the BASEstar Open Configurator is :
0012 - No snapshot is currently available
I set the BSTR_DBACCESS_KEY either just before to use the LOAD
SNAPSHOT command, or just before to start BASEstar and the REALM
instance with the BASEstar Open Manager.
In the two cases i get the error message above.
To initialized the BSTR_DBACCESS_KEY, i'am using the following syntax
from the DOS command prompt :
D:\>set BSTR_DBACCESS_KEY=G:\BSTROVA030\SNAP\NETREALM
Where G: is the connected network drive and NETREALM is the name of
my distributed REALM.
These actions not seems to be the best way to initialise the
Window's NT VODB with remote snapshot files.
Is there someone who could help me to solve this problem ?
Thanks
Laurent SIGNORINI

599.1 | Loading snapshot from Window's NT in a distributed realm | VARESE::CASTIGLIONI | | Tue May 06 1997 12:49 | 17 |
| Hi Laurent,
on B*Open for Windows NT the BSTR_DBACCESS_KEY is not a
simple environment variable thus setting it from the DOS prompt
does not affect the B* behaviour.
To change BSTR_DBACCESS_KEY you should run the registry editor
(regedt32) and do the following:
. shut down B* on the NT system.
. open the HKEY_LOCAL_MACHINE registry table
. open the key SOFTWARE\DigitalEquipmentCorporation\BASEstar Open
Server\3.1\StaticConf\NODE\CONF
. Double_click BSTR_DBACCESS_KEY (it should appear in the right
pannel) and replace the old snapshot location with the new one.
. restart B* on NT.

-Maurizio
