845.0. "Places of Interest To Visit" by DBSUK1::HOBBS () Tue Feb 02 1993 08:56

I would be grateful if anyone could supply information
on visiting the following places:

1. JPL in Pasedena

2. Edwards Air Force Base

Is it worth going, do you have to make a reservation in
advance etc...

Thanks,
Lilian

As of several years ago, it was possible to go out on the dry lake bed at EAFB
on the far side of the runways from the buildings during a shuttle landing. Now
that most landings are scheduled to be at KSC, I don't know. I'd be a bit
surprised, since there was a certain amount of infrastructure that they set up
(sentries, hot dog stands, signs, potties, etc) which they would not be able
to do on one hour's notice. I don't believe it was possible to go to the
buildings themselves. (I could see the Enterprise poking out of a hanger by
way of binoculars, though!...That tells you how long ago it was: Spacelab 1).
